    A Question about Ferrules

So I was idly messing around looking at some cues online and noticed that they gave options for ferrule materials: ABS Aegis G10 combo IvorX Ivorine VI Elforyn Juma Melamine Micarta II Phenolic combo Porper PVC Saber-T My question: how much of a difference is there between these options? Is...

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

That may well be true. Though I learned the bulk of my game from a trio of hustlers back in South St. Louis 30 years ago, and it was from them that I learned how to spot hustlers. And I've played some pretty high level players over the years, though not very many in the last 8 or 10 years...

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

From the days when I used to gamble, I used to say, "I can tell your speed from how you approach the table for your first shot, how you bridge, how you set up behind the ball, and how you rack." Most good gamblers might be able to hide one or two of these things, but I've never seen anyone...

That's interesting. Would like to see that just out of curiosity.

How shafts became the most important part of the cue; Billiard Digest April 2019

Very interesting article. Thanks for posting. Gives me a much better understanding of why my Black Dot shafts play the way they do vs. some of my other single piece shafts. And also the difference that a pro 15-inch taper can have vs. a more traditional taper.

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

Okay, and this may be another dumb question, but how do they arrive at these scores? What are the criteria? Is it just wins and losses, or does FARGO take into account other factors, like a QBR rating?

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

Okay, so if I understand this correctly, the idea behind the FARGO thing is to make ratings across the country (maybe the world?) completely transferable, right? Not like how it used to be, when I could be a 6 here, a 7 in STL, an 8 in NE, and so on.

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

Aw, now you guys are just trying to butter me up. I mean it, I don't gamble anymore!:)

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

Thanks, Chris. I'm guessing that after this year my FARGO will probably drop a bit (I don't get to practice consistently anymore/plus injuries, etc.), but at least I can kind of compare my FARGO to something I'm more familiar with now.

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

Haha, why do I get the feeling you're hedging greatly in your favor? Doesn't matter anyway, I gave up gambling a long time ago. I might be interested for a couple beers though . . .

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

Oh, I agree, not likely. Give me a couple shots of single malt, and I might break the odds though . . .

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

Thanks. To be honest, my initial thought wasn't terribly clean; this one seemed like it would play better. And thanks for the welcome. 'Preciate it.

Okay, I just looked at the link. It looks like I'm still what I thought; a middle-of-the-road 7, probably. Thanks for the link.

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

Ah. Thanks. I think about 100 games. My brain is telling me about 150 or 160, but at least 100.

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

Umm, in pool terms, no idea. Otherwise, for a 50 year-old I'd like to think I'm pretty robust, I guess.

My FARGO is 489. What does that mean?

So last year I started playing a small tournament in north Phoenix because the guy who started it asked me to come and participate. I ended up playing in it about 7 or 8 times last year. A week ago I played in it for the first time this year. While I was there, several players were talking...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

We just finished our Troy Vending 4-player spring session last night. We played the final position round, and won 3 out of 5 rounds, I think. Makes us 5th, I believe. I shot a 36 out of 40 (really should've won all four games for a perfect 40), which makes me MVP for the session. Not bad...

    mental toughness

Who do I think is an all-time grinder? In pool, I like Karen Corr. She was always in the shadow of Allison Fisher, but she never backed down, and sometimes she worked her way into a big win. In other sports, well, it's a long list, so we'll try to keep it down to a manageable field. Don...

That is likely the most beautiful cue I've ever seen. Scratch that. It is without a doubt the most beautiful cue I've ever seen.

    New Here? - Introduce Yourself

Hi, new member. I've been playing pool for over 40 years now, with a few short intermissions. I played in my first league about 30 years ago back in St. Louis. Currently, I live in Phoenix, AZ, and play in the Troy Vending leagues. I used to play pretty seriously until about ten years ago...
