Clutch Shooting Percentage (CSP): A New Cue Sports Stat (sabermetric)

::sigh:: You're still off. You can finish a 2 hour project in 1 hour if you are efficient. Likewise, you can spend 10 hours on a 6 hour project because of unknown variables and you may have done things during that 8 hour day that you should have finished a 6 hour project in, all because you did...

Clutch Shooting Percentage (CSP): A New Cue Sports Stat (sabermetric)

Forthwith, I will only explain the math to people who have read the white paper. My job is not to educate people about basic math.

Think of it another way. If you spend 5-10% of your time on a project at work, do you get 5-10% of the project done? Not necessarily, unless the project is linear, which is improbable. You might only get 2% of the projected completed, or maybe 15% if it's easy.

Clutch Shooting Percentage (CSP): A New Cue Sports Stat (sabermetric)

5-10% of the shots are defensive; however, not every defensive shot leads to victory, only the defensive shots that get you the ball back, ergo it wouldn't be the full 5-10% that effects the game, but the percentage of defensive shots that get you the ball back. If you make one bad defensive...

Clutch Shooting Percentage (CSP): A New Cue Sports Stat (sabermetric)

That's right. My undergraduate and graduate school statistics professors both said the same thing. "Statistics basically says, 'Welp! That's good enough.'" And for the most part they have been shown to be 'good enough' .

Clutch Shooting Percentage (CSP): A New Cue Sports Stat (sabermetric)

The CSP values are calculated only after the last consecutive shot by a player has been made or if the player misses. That is if they hit the 1 on the break, pocket the 2, 3, and 4 but play safety on the 5 ball, then CSP is calculated after that last shot and it is automatically calculated using...

If you would've looked at the white paper you would've seen we disclosed everything. We kept it closed until the release of the formal White Paper for the sake of brevity.

    New pool movie

Got a chance to watch this film tonight. I didn't see the trailer posted on here, because I wanted to go into it with no expectations. That said, I was really happy to see Whistler (as I know him from Sneakers) - Joe - be a major part of the film. The opening made me excited that it was going to...

Clutch Shooting Percentage (CSP): A New Cue Sports Stat (sabermetric)

http://poolst.at/pdf2 ABSTRACT The aim of this paper is to describe and list a new Pool Stats metric, which we call a sabermetric, after the notion that was introduced to the sport of baseball by Bill James. We define 'clutch' to mean a player's performance under adversity and executing the...

Pool & Billiard Magazine - Gone?

I personally prefer reading physical books and magazines. I'll never read a book on my tablet, though I actually don't mind magazines on a tablet. Realistically, the generation after me (I'm 37) is so stuck on the screens, that you have to go digital to survive. It's also nice to have something...

Very True! Thank you! We will be releasing the white paper detailing the formulas shortly (maybe tonight if I have the energy).

These are good questions btw. It's better to ask where the benefit is rather than to dismiss new ideas without any thought put in first. Thank you.

Shot Aptitude: A New Pool Game Metric (Sabermetric)

:rotflmao1: Anyone can be at the top. Most mathematical/scientific innovations and statistics don't find practical use at the start and can take years to achieve maturity. It's only until someone realizes what they can benefit from it that it becomes a socialized norm. You use pool stats as...

Time is the major player in the formulae, but not the only factor. The formulas are ready for print and we will be publishing them in the coming weeks so people can better understand how this metric is calculated.

Shot Aptitude: A New Pool Game Metric (Sabermetric)

Gauging performance under a shot-clock is of no real value? Gauging how quickly and effectively one acts is of no real value? The ability to act effectively and decisively is an inherent ability, i.e., aptitude. One way to use this stat is that if you take a long time to shoot the ball and...

Shot Aptitude: A New Pool Game Metric (Sabermetric)

As my colleague pointed out to me in discussing the issues some people may raise about Shot Aptitude, consider the following analogous comparison of two basketball players: One player can be passed the ball, pull-up, shoot and drain the 3-point shot, whereas the other player needs to dribble it...

Shot Aptitude: A New Pool Game Metric (Sabermetric)

By default, the matches we have recorded all had a 30 or 40 second shot clock with one extension and a 60 second shot clock on the shot after the break, save for one match. The app has a shot clock built-in to it, so it does account for the time it takes. Inversely proportional for missed shots...
