GC4 pocket castings sit higher than rails

These look really good on the top surface. I wouldn't really mind the edge near the skirt sticking out like that since it's not a place my hand would be when bridging.

GC4 pocket castings sit higher than rails

I'll try to get a picture soon. I have two ideas in mind: With toothpicks/business card/duct tape, shim the outside of the castings up so that the inside "corners" that are sticking up start to level out. I'd place the shims on the rails where the castings rest. This wouldn't make the...

GC4 pocket castings sit higher than rails

How bad is yours? I don't notice it other than when my cue is directly above the point of the casting and have to adjust my bridge to avoid it. I haven't dragged my cue right over one of the points yet, but I can imagine the scar it could make if I do.

GC4 pocket castings sit higher than rails

Anyone know if this is normal or if not, how to fix it? It's the same on all castings, side pockets included.

    Table Leveling Specification

Glen walked me through leveling my GC4 with a single Starrett 98-8. Moving around between 18(?) different locations on the table, the goal was to be within 5/1000's of level at each location. He mentioned that most people won't be able to perceive an unlevel table until it's around 20/1000's off.

    Cloth stretch, use manufacturers recommendations?

How so? When stretching side-to-side, pulling farther than the recommended stretch index left less material/wrinkles over the side pockets that gets used up when stretching lengthwise later. First table I've ever done so I'm far from being an expert or claiming that what I did was right, but...

    Table light advice

I'm considering doing this same thing but I'm worried about how bright the lights will be from elsewhere in the room and while down on a shot. Did you use any diffusers to cut down on the glare, or is it not really an issue? Do you have any pics?

How do you have your table marked?

I like the look of the T. Does it provide a necessary mark for anything or is it more for looks?

How do you have your table marked?

I use it for Cowboy. Pretty simple game, but a nice change of pace from 8 and 9 ball.

How do you have your table marked?

I just finished my GC4 install and have taken a minimalistic approach to marking my table so far - small black dots for the head, foot, and center spots with a sharpie. I'm thinking the head string and vertical line from the foot spot to the foot rail would be good to have as well. How do you...

    Cloth stretch, use manufacturers recommendations?

Likewise. Would have left too much material when stretching lengthwise if I followed the DVD.

    Mechanic in Colorado

Just broke and ran my first rack of 8 ball on the GC right by the front door there. Sad to hear that it might be sold soon.

    Mechanic in Colorado

Best Quality Billiards in Lakewood will not do any work on a pool table unless you bought it from them. I just purchased Simonis 860 from them a week ago and spoke with the owner about it. They don't have enough mechanics and can't find anyone else willing to work.

    Difference in GC values?

I'd go with the 4 over the 3 just for flush pockets. I recently picked one up for $1500, but the seller wasn't aware that they had a GC4, nor what people will pay for them.

    Difference in GC values?

The leg levelers are good, and the slate levelers are good for getting slate seams flat, but I am with RKC on using them for final leveling - don't. The slate levelers are not located in the most advantageous positions for final leveling. I just leveled my GC4 by myself (with RKC on the phone)...

    Shout out to RKC

Yeah I understand there's some bad blood between him and this forum, but that's none of my business and I won't make it my business. I will only speak from personal experience and that is that he's a standup guy. Not many people I know would go out of their way to reveal their tricks to a...

    Shout out to RKC

Last night RKC spent 2 hours on the phone with me, talking me through leveling my GC4, then insisted I not pay him a dime. He had me use techniques that aren't in the stickied instructions he wrote and I haven't read about anywhere else. When the table needs adjusting in the future, he showed me...

    Simonis logo on rails

That's good to know, thank you. I'll test fit the one that's centered this evening and reach out to Ivan if the logo creeps onto the top of the rail.
