Yapp winning, with a foul! Just like Maradona making a goal with his hands :D

You're twisting yourself into a pretzel trying to avoid the obvious. He pulled the cue up and left after contact and hit the 9. End of story.

Yapp winning, with a foul! Just like Maradona making a goal with his hands :D

I read them all. They're wrong. It's still a foul. It won't change the outcome, but maybe it'll make things better next time.

I saw that. He was definitely channeling Buddy Holly there for a bit.

Yeah, you would think he would know better.

Yapp winning, with a foul! Just like Maradona making a goal with his hands :D

Right, but why suddenly decide these were fouls when they weren't before? It confused the players (and the rules committee, apparently). Anyway, hopefully he gets the chance to learn from this. Being and looking in the right place is the majority of a referee's job.

You forgot when he unilaterally decided that a miscue was a foul, which WPA had to correct with a rule clarification last month. Michaela Tabb (not an American, by the way - not sure what your issue is there) set the gold standard for pool referees. Hopefully Marcel can approach her level...

Yapp winning, with a foul! Just like Maradona making a goal with his hands :D

Sorry, not even close. He's had multiple high-profile screwups. But in all fairness, he does ref a lot and gets plenty of opportunities.

Yapp winning, with a foul! Just like Maradona making a goal with his hands :D

Somewhere he had the best view of the area where the likelihood of a foul was the highest. If Yapp had been bending over a ball, the ref would have watched his shirt like a hawk to spot a touch. In this case, the most likely place for a foul to occur was where Yapp had to hold his cue...

Yapp winning, with a foul! Just like Maradona making a goal with his hands :D

On the contrary - it would have been much more visible to the naked eye than through an image that's been cut into frames, digitized, compressed, optimized, enlarged, and viewed on screens with limited pixel count. The human eye is incredible and makes any screen's resolution seem like grainy...

It wasn't magic, or digital artifacts, or seismic activity, or ghosts. Occam's razor. His cue hit the 9. Why are we even questioning this? I predict a @dr_dave video by Tuesday at the latest. For everyone else, maybe next year.

Why are there so few black pro players..?

I just played against a kid in a tournament. I got exactly four shots in three games in the match, all from very low-quality position he had left me in. He ran out from everywhere, kicked, jumped, broke out trouble. It was a joy to watch. 11th grade he's in. Maybe there is a future.

    US Open 08/18-23

I agree, I didn't see any reaction on Yapp's part. But I definitely noticed the foul in real time. And on the replay. And in the super slo-mo blowup.
