How do you dress or appear at a pool hall?

I think it was Fats who said, "putting a pool player in a tux was like putting whipped cream on a hot dog".

    21st century sneaky pete???

go to pawn shop and buy a non-descript cue butt that is straight and has a standard joint, buy a good maple shaft to fit and the best tip for it. Maybe a butt with a NFL or NBA design or NASCAR or beer brand. It would be ugly and hacked together, but it would play great. What do you think???

    Best cue under $1000

This is a very nice looking cue, and ALL prior cues of the month have sold out, so there is some value to it, and the price is very reasonable.

    Got my first break cue!

ask your local pool cue guy.....perhaps a medium hard tip would suit you better. I would stick with a leather tip, rather than phenolic or other material. These are really hard.

in addition to the recommendations here, I would ask your local "pool guy" what he might suggest. Good luck, and welcome to the addiction.

Loose Grip/Tight Grip and Resulting Cueball Action

Greatest stroke ever.....Cowboy Jimmy Moore, it was like his whole arm was running on ball bearings. Only saw him as an old man, but the first time I saw him play I thought, this guy has played a LOT of pool and that stroke is amazing, like a teen ager.

What the pros do differently ...

when a casual observer watches a pool match, they only watch the balls being made. When you get some knowledge of the game you realize that is only about 40% of the shot, moving the cue ball is the real skill in shooting. as my mentor was fond of saying, "watch whitey, whitey don't lie, he...

I have 2 Predator first edition/generation 314 shafts,, fit Schon thread. I think I paid about $200-225 or so for them. I have had them more than 25 years. One was my player, the other a backup. Both in good to great shape. I can't recall the tips, but probably Mooris. Just curious...

    Break cue weight

background.....Historically, I used a cue the same or slightly lighter than my playing cue which is a 19. Then I had a heavy breaker made for me at about 25 and it was shorter and thicker than my player, hit like a ton. Then a fellow player, who is also a golfer, said this is all wrong...

    Jump RODS

sounds like the old Robin Dodson Frog jump stick. short, thick, large plastic tip about the size of a quarter. Imagine a one piece cue, cut off at 40 inches from the butt and then a large tip attached.
