    Home Room Project

Lighting was hooked up, and then prep for painting which was a lot of dust removal. Some patchwork was required as well. Also got the door hardware. Outdoor photos show the condition of our yard which was dirt and weeds. It was also around this time they dug a gravel for water runoff...

    Carom ball sets - question/recommendations

The size of the example balls was going to be a question I failed to ask. I’ve got an American pool table and use regular 2.25” balls. I’d like to try English Billiards on my table for fun and understand it’s not the same as playing it on snooker table with what I think would be smaller...

    Carom ball sets - question/recommendations

I’m looking to get a dedicated three ball set for English billiards on my 9’ table. Need a recommendation between the different Aramith sets in the $75-135 range. I don’t need the professional level balls, but how are the $75 set for occasional use? Here are the sets I’m considering. I...

    Home Room Project

Then three months of winter passed with zero progress. Finally mid-March the interior installation started with insulation and drywall. We kept the back side of the stucco garage for interest. This part of the project took forever. Three months of off/on work and they were finally finished.

    Home Room Project

Electric wired, and the exterior stucco. All of this was completed in three months by the end of December 2018 which now seems like an eternity ago. Still, this part of the project went quickly and we felt confident we’d be finished by spring.

    Home Room Project

Then the floor was cemented, I forget how thick but the contractor said it would be thick enough to hold a pool table with no issue. The guy normally does garage builds so I took his word for it. An interior view shows the 9 foot ceiling we requested to keep errant cue tips from hitting the...

    Home Room Project

Now we’re getting somewhere with the pictures. Framing was next, surprised how quickly this part went. Roof shingled already. This was about 1 month into the construction.

    Home Room Project

Next was foundation; cinder block, cement and gravel. Basic stuff, this all went quickly. I’d upload the next round of pics, but getting annoyed they all upload sideways and upside down. Now recall why I abandoned this blog two years ago.

Forgot about updating this blog. Here’s the groundbreaking. Shed from previous post was moved out of the way. Foundation dug. Much more to come (eventually)

BilliardManager - Your pool tracking app for iOS and Android

I’ve done a couple solo workouts so far. I really like how the app tracks your stats and progress cumulatively over an extended period in detail. As I continue to use the workout feature I’m curious to see the difference between my shot % and safe %. I assume the app believes you are shooting...

    Old 8 ball rules

I didn’t play in the 60s or 70s, but remember learning the rules in the early 80s as a teenager before TE became the standard. 1. Yes, unless on a bar box obviously, and no matter what was sunk on a scratch was spotted. 2. No. Penalty was opponent had cue ball in the kitchen. 3. Only game...

A Math based game for playing pool

7 & 9 are a pair But yeah, this game is reinventing Cribbage. For more math based games try Forty One, Fifteen Ball, or Rotation which was already mentioned.

    Racking balls randomly

In 8-ball, scoop up the balls with your arms into a triangle. All you need to do is move two balls at a maximum. Place the 8 in the center, and check the two back corners are a stripe and a solid. That’s the racking rule. Don’t overthink it. We all know rotation games and games where...

    Dynasphere Bronze balls......$100

Got this Bronze set earlier this week. Nice set, numbers are big and bold. I like the font.

    Equal Offense II

Reached a milestone today by finally just hitting the 100 average at the 2 miss level. A poor session score of 79 from March finally fell off the last 10 sets and helped bump up the average to 100.2. Next session I will resume the 2 miss level and try to maintain the average. If not, it’s...

Did the old clay balls skid?

I’m going out on a limb and say roll-off was a bigger issue with clay balls than skidding, especially old worn sets and on old chalk infested worn cloth. Slow roll at your own peril…

    Babe Cranfield

I was in junior high school when ESPN aired these events. I never saw the first year with Kim Prince hosting, but I definitely recall the next two years with Irv Brown and Chris Berman. At the time I was only able to catch them occasionally and rarely ever saw a complete episode, and by the...

Pool Announcers; What do you want?

Two pool expert analysts is too much, all you need is one. If you’re going to have two announcers you need a play by play announcer to counter the player analysis otherwise it’s overbearing. Silence is golden too, every second of airtime need not be filled with talking. Take a breather for a...
