    GC5 Tournament Edition pocket sizes

You come to my place and I have equipment options. 😄 How about these instead: @rexus31 I measured using a ruler and I’m estimating these are 4 9/16” pockets. Admittedly it’s difficult photographing the measurement accurately. Then again, I tried measuring using Greg Sullivan’s method...

Very Best Pool Video Instruction: Free or Paid?

I saw major improvements after watching ‘A Pool Lesson with Jerry Briesath’ which I paid for and is the most comprehensive video course I’ve found. There are many pointers that I practice each time at the table to keep my fundamentals in check. The only thing better than his video course would...

That may be the one and only time I’ve ever seen him rack the balls.

    Perimeter vs Lite Systems

I picked up the Perimeter light. At 56” above the table I get 900-1000 lux across the table which seems bright enough considering the WPA recommends only 517 minimum. What height are other perimeter style light owners setting theirs to? I was think raising another 5” to the max 60” height as...

Drop pocket vs. gully... what is your preference and why?

Drop for home = quieter. Also easier to keep everything clean I imagine.

Pool? If you can only play one game?

I’ve played more than half the games in the BCA official rule book. I can’t play any of them worth a darn, but if I had to choose, probably 8 Ball. 8B seems to include facets of all the other games and can easily be tweaked for variety.

    Aramith Black Orange

I’ve already got the orange 5 from the Tournament set. Don’t need to spend the extra money for a duplicate, though the Orange/black 13 is pretty cool.

Hand-held mechanical scoring device for billiards

I believe this device is for scoring English and/or Carom billiards. ‘Spot’ and ‘Plain’ are descriptions for each player; one has the spotted ball, the other has the plain ball. The top dial must be used for tracking runs or ‘breaks’.

    "Freeze Out"

I never completely understood the ‘freeze out’ betting proposition in The Hustler. The only thing I understood was the implication Eddie won 10 games in a row for $100. It’s not clear if the other player won any games. The only thing said prior to playing is: Let's cut out the small stuff...

    Question about Runout Drill System

There was discussion about these levels during the original RDS testing. I believe the extra BiH for levels 6 & 8 was ultimately the final rule set. Simply, if a player doesn’t need the extra BiH for these levels they’ve demonstrated enough proficiency to easily progress to the higher levels...

What did date night and low-level amateur 14:1 look like back in its day?

No doubt a great snapshot of the era, but it’s just Brunswick advertising. My favorite part is the two kids messing around that supposedly need some instruction. In comes Mosconi, mumbles a couple words, shows them how to hold a cue and then just takes over running balls. Wow it’s so easy...

Your 1st Cue, 30 Years Later

My first real cue was a Viking given as a present from my parents for my 15th or 16th birthday in '86 or '87. I have no idea on the model number. This was my main stick for 25 years until I got a new Pechauer in ‘12. It was a good cue; I got miles out of it. I just decided I wasn't into...

    Perimeter vs Lite Systems

There’s no doubt the perimeter lights provide bright, even lighting to the much needed corners of the table compared to the old ‘can’ style. And this would be the #1 reason for me to upgrade. However, there’s something aesthetically pleasing about playing in a room where light is focused on...

    Anyone seen this movie?

I found this about the financials. So many movies, so many staggering financial losses. Guess the industry is recession proof.

    Anyone using Simones Green cloth?

I wanted a traditional look and went with Simonis green. In hindsight if I really wanted to ‘turn back the clock’ incandescent lighting and dark green/spruce cloth would have been more fitting. Now I realize good lighting is priority, so I’m considering changing to a 5k perimeter light and...

    Equal Offense II

Update two years later. While I haven’t been practicing near the amount sessions from 2-3 years ago, and haven’t been logging progress by spreadsheet, my overall average has in fact improved to nearly 6 (precisely 5.7) Since my bump in average I’ve been keeping stats in the 1 miss level and...

Another 21st century light option / Solvita

Another modern light option for consideration. Solvita Comparatively priced but slightly more than Perimeter and Lite Systems. Each day brings me closer to ditch the old fashioned can/pendant light style from 1924 even if they have 5k LEDs.
