R.I.P. - Broadway Billiards in NYC

S- I think you'd bring too much class to ever play there, but it's nice to hear your words. A lot of the ABC guys would practice there early on Thursdays before league, so it definitely had the ABC connect. The owners seem not too disappointed. They were all there tonight, I guess to...

R.I.P. - Broadway Billiards in NYC

Ah, the old straight pool players. I'm assuming you're talking about Vinnie (a 100+ runner) and Louie. It's a great place, and it's place in the NYC pool scene will be missed.

R.I.P. - Broadway Billiards in NYC

It's with a heavy heart that I have to let everyone know that Broadway Billiards at 10 E. 21st Street, in NYC, is going to be closing its doors tomorrow evening. They'll be open tomorrow, but it's unknown for how late. Tables (Gold Crowns) are being sold for $500 for anyone interested. Due to...

WPBA, Shanelle and other Pool News

She's been playing a little in the Amsterdam Billiards BCA League, rated as an A+. She's maintained a winning record, and seems to be shooting pretty well. My teammate (rated a C+) played her last night and lost; she gave him 4 on 9.

    The Swanee

Although a fine player, Brian Parks has never won the Swnee. The past two winners were Johnny Acher and Billy Palmer.

    526 and John Schmidt

I believe Engert's run of 491 was dong 15-20 years ago. Does someone know for sure when this happened?

    John, Willie or Ralph?

I have a question, since a lot of people have brought this up in the past few days: Does anyone know for sure that he quit at 526 because he was simply too tired? To me this really seems like something that was made up, to further glorify and immortalize Mosconi. Granted, it happened 50+ years...

SJM's First Trip to the Derby

Great write-up. That's the most detail I've read on the '09 DCC the past two weeks!

    Is this table too tight?

Um, I'm sure it plays great for snooker -- but realistically, pool is designed to have larger pockets than that. Pool is a shooting game and if you can't pocket that ball at that speed because the pockets are too tight, then it changes the whole game. I'm all for tight pockets, and prefer to...

Legends and Champions Pool Tour in NY area, suggestions.

Otherwise, Masters is definitely the second place you should look into. It's located a few train stops out of Manhattan. Instead of league play, Master Billiards is more known for their weekly tournaments and plenty of action. They've got a couple dozen tables, two snooker tables, and a half...

Legends and Champions Pool Tour in NY area, suggestions.

Amsterdam Billiard Club! I'm sure many would echo that this would be perfect if the management is willing. Many have sung its praises, and it's certainly active in the league scene. I'd definitely try and attend if it were at ABC.

My Wife & I Made This Fluke 3 Times in 2 Days!

lol, I don't know what's more surprising -- that you *missed* that shot three times in two days, or that you fluked it in!

There aught to be a law..

Is this topic really still going on? If there's going to be a law regarding casual dress in a poolroom, I think there should be a law against so many typos in a post (not to mention title).

Oh, come on now... are you serious? You really want valuable input as to the longterm side effects of various closed bridges? I'm going to go for a beer right now, and hope this thread ends by the time I finish it.

    New York City pool halls

If you hit up Soho, you might as well give Broadway Billiards (10 E. 21st St, NY NY) a shot. Table time is $5 during the week, and $6/hr on weekends. They're also open 24-hours, and have some tight pocket tables if that's your thing. SoHo has the potential to be a good room, but I find too...
