    Cue woods for the future

Taylor Guitar and Ebony "Let’s all stop for a second and thank the guitar making dumbasses like Taylor.....and folks freak out over elephants hell they were dropping dozens of trees just to get one keg black one and would let the rest rot due to.....dogma." In regards to Taylor (who has a...

    3/8 × 10 versus radial pin opinions

G-10 vs Brass I typically use brass on "players" and G-10 on break cues. I THINK that the brass has a slight edge on feedback/playability and the G-10 allows for a tighter shaft to butt connection. With that said I have had some feedback on players using the Merlin(G-10) breaker as a player...

    Glue joint test

Glue What Eric said regarding joinery is spot on. "Fit is another factor that doesn't get a lot of attention but is critical no matter the glue you use. Whether threaded or slip, a good friction fit is a must for the glue to do its thing. Too tight and the glue will be pushed away. Too loose...

    BRW squares

Brw BRW is pretty porous and what you are seeing may not be mineral deposits but sanding dust that was not blown out during the sanding/finishing process.

    dying blanks

Dyeing Well, I still do it for my own use--once in awhile. It is kind of messy and I don't like the dust the resin creates when cleaning up the stabilized wood.

    dying blanks

Dyeing The resin doesn't penetrate deep enough for a satisfactory dye job. This is how I do it: Mix my dye with alcohol and vacuum chamber it. It will penetrate as far as reasonably possible. Redye with different colors the same way. Then stabilize.

    Oak in cues

Oak I use red oak in shafts quite often and I am working on two right now. It is stiffer than maple but not quite as stiff as Purpleheart it is also light. It seems to be favored by 1 pocket players. Bob

    slabbing Ivory

Cutting ivory If any of the other posters would care to offer me some advice about cutting the ivory-I am all ears. I have cut ivory relatively easy with a: "Laguna Resaw King Blade 3/4" x 115" (Compatible with 14|12 Bandsaw) SKU: BBRK-34-115". This blade cuts as smooth as silk has carbide...

    Rosewood Question

Brw In regards to whether to core, or not to core, BRW is a no brainer for me. I would not insult the Dalbergia Nigra Gods by coring BRW. If you are trying to "stabilize" the wood to keep it from moving take into consideration that any BRW you are fortunate enough to have is probably from a...

    Thin CA works best

Wounds I've used "New Skin" for wounds for decades. Same as CA but it is medical grade with some good smelling stuff--CVS or Walgreens. CA was used in Vietnam to patch up many GI's.

    Coring, tolerances?

Coring "They use my cues to play pool. As such, I build them with pool playing in mind. Would my poly glue bond fail if I used a cue in place of a fishing rod? Probably so. Will it fail if I use it to play pool? Not in my lifetime". AMEN to that, Eric TIP: Thread your butt cap and all your...
