2010 National and World 14.1 Championships?

Still, I find it very concerning that it took someone starting a random thread for us to find out about this. People have plans to make, both the players and the fans. - Steve

    105 Ball Run

Mike, Three comments. First, I enjoyed the run. You have a nice stroke and generally good rhythm. I also liked how you were often able to minimize cueball movement by utlizing side pocket patterns. Second, along that vein, I think you may have missed an opportunity at 32:45. It looks like...

    Oversight of BCAPL international teams?

I must say I'm happy that people are starting to take this seriously. The Americans clearly don't have the same abilities to put teams together as other countries. And rather than be meek about it, they're flaunting it. Strange. Hopefully someone can alert Mark Griffin to this issue so we...

    Oversight of BCAPL international teams?

Thanks for the info, Tony. I wasn't accusing anyone of cheating, but your post is actually exactly what I was fearing. I think it's egregious that you get the benefit of choosing your best players from the entire country (who are eligible as non-masters), when as Americans our hands are...

About the "no earplugs" rule at the US Open 10Ball event

Superstar, on this one issue I must disagree. I think the wearing of earphones is incredibly disrespectful to your opponent, as well as to a paying audience. I would never applaud a shot made by someone who is intentionally making it so he can't hear me. - Steve

    Oversight of BCAPL international teams?

I guess this post is directed mostly at Mr. Griffin, who I have found to be nothing but an upstanding gentleman looking out for the best interests of the game. But I am curious for other thoughts as well. How is the BCA guaranteeing a fair process for vetting their international team players...

BCA Nationals Ref - Borrow a jump cue?

Hey UW, I long ago gave up on taking that tournament seriously. From the ludicrous calls by the refs (I got hosed again this year) to the insanely rude players and their entourages to tournament schedules where you play from 8am to 2am, you're gonna drive yourself nuts if you take it...

Odds on Shane Winning BCAPL Men's Open

Wow, 80:1 seems a bit high. And can you give some insight on how bookies calculate this? Thanks, Steve

Odds on Shane Winning BCAPL Men's Open

A serious hypothetical question, that I'll ask in two parts: 1. If SVB were allowed in the men's open in Vegas, what would be his odds of winning the approximately 1,300 player event? 2. If he were allowed to play, but nobody knew who he was, what would the odds be? I came up with about 3:1...

    Test

Hey everyone. My friend had his cues and case stolen from the carousel at McCarren Airport as he arrived for the BCAPL a few days ago. The airline messed up and, after bumping him to a later flight, never had someone retrieve his bags from the first one. So they just went round and round at...

Dippy Dave takes 27 grand off Bustamante?

How do you give out that kind of weight to a guy you haven't known for like 5 years? - Steve

Wow Kind of Suprised to See This !!

Sounds to me like they're just trying to lower expectations ahead of the event. It's a classic ploy, employed expertly by the Bush team before the 2000 debates with Gore. In the weeks leading up to them, his PR team kept saying publicly how they knew he couldn't really compete with Gore's...

    Happy Birthday SJM!

Happy birthday to one of the true stalwarts of the NYC pool scene. A lot of people owe a lot of knowledge to you, sir. I still have to take that 14.1 safety lesson from you. Thanks for all your help to Gina and me over the years. Have a great day! - Steve

Not 99, not 101, but it was 100

Bill, without you even realizing it probably, you're becoming one of the straight pool elite in this country. Don't know a lot of other people who are putting up numbers like you are. Congrats on this latest achievement and looking forward to seeing you at the next tournament! - Steve

    Break shot help...

Dogs, It's hard to believe that they were really using low. Maybe some sort of a drag type shot, so as to affect where the forward roll begins? Not sure. But the fact is, finding the right english and hit is important in how you want to leave the cueball. But it's actually not that...

New York City's Newest Poolroom - Society Billiards - Coming this Spring!

I just want to add my congratulations to the growing chorus. There couldn't be a more dedicated management team in place for this project. Anyone that followed his heart as much as Jude has is bound for great success. I couldn't be happier for my friend. Society Billiards will be a SICK...

    64, 64, 85

Bill, I'm curious what you were trying at 3:46 of the 85 ball run... Unless you play this ball with massive left, so that you make sure to come to the right side of the 13 (as seen on the screen), I think this shot is really dangerous. Almost nothing good can happen once you miss this lane...
