Thanks Dennis. My main mentor, by far, is Danny Barouty. There were a few before him, such as Jerry Nacovsky, Bobby "C" (houseman at Leisure Time on Long Island), and Dale Baker in Ithaca. I'd love for Danny to chime in and write about his upbringing in the game. I'm sure it would be an...

Pursuant to my earlier post where I mention getting laid off, I'm gettin' into the lessonin' business! My teaching style is a bit different than most. I will play scotch doubles straight pool, 8-ball, or rotation with you, in a you-shoot-then-I-shoot format. I have found it promotes a great...

John Schmidt: Modern Day Straight Pool Master

Great article Samm. One of the reasons John was able to provide such telling answers is because you asked some very knowledgeable questions. That was seriously one of the best 14.1 interviews I've ever read. You asked all the right questions; questions that I as a fan would want answered. I...

    Zinzola Cues

Thanks for the good wishes on the new cue, everyone! Bernie, not sure how often I run 100+. I play pretty much 3 games of 14.1 a week, one set of 9 ball, and maybe another set of 10 ball. Two of those games of 14.1 though, are with Danny Barouty, so it's easy to sort of stay in stroke when...

    Zinzola Cues

Thank you sir. I think Tony has the more professional pictures... mine would look terrible. I also keep the cue in the poolroom so the lighting wouldn't be great. If Tony can't find any finished pictures, I'll definitely get some up. - Steve

    Zinzola Cues

As some of you may know, I got my beautiful new Zinzola cue at this year's Super Billiard Expo. Tony is a great cuemaker based out of Massachussetts, and I've known him since we met at college many years ago. Last night I ran my first hundred with it! It was 100 exactly, and it was in my...

A Very Happy Birthday to John Schmidt

    84 ball run

It's great to see an azb regular playing so well. Judging by all the runs up on the board lately, it seems everyone is chugging along quite nicely...

    42 ball run

Way to go Dennis... I'm gonna watch tonight.

Want to see an interesting game?

The game was not worth recording... in fact, Danny and I apologize if anyone watched it ;). He got me about 150-107. Lots of misses, and some very uninspired play from both sides. Oh well, it happens to everyone I guess... - Steve

Finally! The elusive "100" on a diamond.

Cognrats Bernie! That is a very special achievement. Was it a tough shot that you missed? Was the table open? I think you'd have to clarify what you mean by getting lucky for a run to continue. There's always some degree of luck on break shots, and very often, a few millimeters can result...

Want to see an interesting game?

CreeDo, It'll probably be put on the internet table... you can watch at go4pool.net, and click on one of the Amsterdam links. They just reclothed the table (if that's the one we play on), so who knows, one of us might actually run something. ;) - Steve

Steve Lipsky PERFECT 85 from SBE 14.1 Challenge

Thanks Roy, and everyone else. As to the lone ball issue, I consider it a problem because it can often cause otherwise-tight patterns to unravel. I guess in these racks I dealt with them reasonably, but in others they have led to problems. I really feel that if I take more care to remove them...

No words to describe a run of this nature. From what I heard, the table he ran it on is pretty tight as well. It's phenomenal. I can't even imagine the mental focus required to keep a run going that long, especially on unforgiving equipment. Congrats Thorsten! - Steve

Steve Lipsky PERFECT 85 from SBE 14.1 Challenge

Hey 3, I doubt my hand could have fit on the table in any sort of a comfortable manner, so I think it was sort of necessary for the long bridge here. As a general rule, I'd rather take a longer bridge off the rail than a shorter one on the bed, but it has to be within reason... It only has to...

Steve Lipsky PERFECT 85 from SBE 14.1 Challenge

Some quick notes that I see immediately... In the first rack, I am guilty of doing two things which I've actually written about on this forum! The first, described in a post I once made called "Your One Thing" (about something you do which you know is wrong, and you're trying to improve upon)...
