Probably not going to affect a new player as much but the diameter of older traditional cues are larger than most newer builds.

If you liked them you're really gonna love these. Hand painted for Schmelke by a local artist in the early 90s.

Hard to tell what the handle is but looks like it could be a type of striped ebony ot Bocote. As for the shaft it almost looks like an illusion and it is very close to 13mm. I think it has a strainghter taper making it appear thinner. I'd say it's a 150.00+ cue for sure.

Might try a black light to see if it's more legible.

I believe Bob Owen is also in Texas but I'd think he's pretty busy with his own cues. Not sure he'd be doing any refinishing.

Maybe you can track it down. He may remember who bought it. Who knows. I'm surprised Richard didn't come right out and say yes/no to building it. Maybe he wants it in hand or I guess it's possible he charges like Schon does now.

After doing some picture comparing, I'd say there's a good chance it is an early Black. Be nice to have both cues in hand to do some real comparing.

So was your dad John Laughlin the cuemaker from Houston Texas?

Yes, don't know if he's even still around. Build some back in the 90s maybe 80's

I guess this is a pretty obvious answer, but has anyone tried contacting Richard? Although it doesn't look like a Black to me, I've not seen many pictures of his early cues, and none in person.
