    Played pool today. Some info.

Good for you. Hope you had fun. Don't listen to the doom and gloom club. I can't wait for the bars and pool halls to open up around here. Your post gives me a little more hope.

    You'll never get better...

It's just another pool myth. I know a guy here in Phx that used to play on the tour, is still rated a 10 minus 1 (no idea what his Fargo is), and because of his strong Christian beliefs, has never gambled over a single game. You want to get better you just have to self-analyze your game and...

for those with multiple cues which play best ??

It's simply the cue that you have the most confidence in. I haven't owned as many cues as many on here (4 dozen or so), and certainly i haven't owned as many "high-end" custom cues as many, but I've played with some nice cues over the years. The three i keep coming back to, or have the most...

Fixing American Pool by forming the NBL (National Billiards League) & PBA Tour!!!

I hope they figure something out to grow the game. But until they can push the gambling part of the culture off into the weeds, it's probably not going to happen. In order to grow the game, you have to get the kids into the game early. To do that, you need the parents to be on board. It has...

Has your local pool hall (here in the US) opened back up yet?

Uh, what are you talking about? Did I mention China in my post?

How popular is the game of 8 Ball - Last Pocket, and who do you think is the Best?

We play it fairly often around here. In fact, we usually play a modified version of the game, 'last pocket, back-8'. Never during a tournament, but casually at bars or among friends, after a tournament, whatever.

Has your local pool hall (here in the US) opened back up yet?

Sorry, but most of this is just incorrect. The fact of the matter is that the WHO told the U.S. that there was no danger of human-to-human transmission, and some other lies initially. In other words, they completely downplayed the dangers of this virus, so our government didn't have the...

Has your local pool hall (here in the US) opened back up yet?

As I understand it, here in AZ the last things they're going to allow to reopen are things like bars and pool halls, unfortunately. But the general public has gone almost full dipstick on this virus scare now, and it'll just about take a declaration that they've got some kind of 100% effective...

    Bocote Sneaky......Copper....fancy........F/S......

Just picked up this cue from NewSherriff. Looks better in person than in the pics. And it looked really good to me in the pics. Can't wait to shoot with it, which hopefully will be tomorrow night.

Has the quality difference between "custom" and "production" become negligible?

I said that I know something about how high quality products are made and what it takes to make them. And that usually to get the highest degree of performance and craftsmanship it takes a great craftsman, not a piece of high tech equipment. Now if cue-making is so different from most other...

Has the quality difference between "custom" and "production" become negligible?

No, you misunderstand me again, I've heard of Burton Spain, but I haven't seen one or played with one. And I wasn't sure exactly what Burton Spain's 'ranking' was in the world of cue-makers. just that he was supposed to be very good. And I did freely admit in my very first post in this thread...

Has the quality difference between "custom" and "production" become negligible?

Ok, then, a B. Spain. never played one or even saw one, I don't think, but were Spains considered the best playing cue at the time?

Has the quality difference between "custom" and "production" become negligible?

Maybe. Maybe not. Stradivarius instruments are unanimously considered the finest stringed instruments ever made, and were built back the 18th century, IIRC. No computers, no high tech CNC machinery, nothing. Just a craftsman whose instruments still can't be equaled, never mind surpassed...

Has the quality difference between "custom" and "production" become negligible?

I remember when they called Super Glue "magic." Or that epoxy that could bind metals together in a vacuum . . .

Has the quality difference between "custom" and "production" become negligible?

I'm certain they can. I've owned several Pechauers over the last 30 odd years. Always liked Peaches.

Has the quality difference between "custom" and "production" become negligible?

I'll give you yet another example. There are literally dozens of companies that make the 1911 design pistol, most made by the large companies everyone's heard of, such as Colt, S&W, SIG, Springfield Armory, etc. And they all produce 1911s of varying degrees of quality, and most of them are...

Has the quality difference between "custom" and "production" become negligible?

Of course. Just as building a Honda Civic requires human interaction or whatever. The question is what is the skill level of the human doing the work. Is that person a journeyman/apprentice level worker, or is he a master-class craftsman?

Has the quality difference between "custom" and "production" become negligible?

I agree with you. My point is that I can't think of a single performance-oriented product that doesn't benefit from more human interaction during production rather than less human interaction. Not one. Okay, maybe performance tires. I don't know if anyone is making tires largely by hand. But...
