Good beginner cue brand and price?

That's interesting. Something must've changed. Vikings are decent, at least the ones I've seen, but I haven't owned one in decades. Guess I'll bow out of this thread at this point because I really don't have an economic brand/model I can advocate anymore. Personally not a fan of either...

    Table felt color

The light blue or green are the only colors you should look at. Tan is acceptable, but who wants a tan table? Red is awful visually; something about red plays havoc with your ability to see the OBs clearly. The human eye sees green the best, but I think most home rooms don't have good enough...

Good beginner cue brand and price?

Get a McDermott cue GS1 series for about $200, IIRC. Solid company, manufacturing, and made in Wisconsin. Good enough quality that you may never need to buy another cue in your life. If you live another 20 years, that's 10 bucks a year.

How about "designer cues" instead of custom cues?

And again, we seem to be in agreement. Customization doesn't necessarily mean higher quality. As for your next two sentences concerning tip diameters and the color of a Ford, those are options, and have nothing to do with quality. Again, we're in agreement. If someone can only draw a cue...

If I had cues made to my specs, then would it be fair to say that I made them?

I'm sorry, but I don't see what your upset about. This is completely normal in every corner of manufacturing you can think of. American car makers have parts built in foreign countries then shipped to the U.S. for assembly. American car makers have entire cars built elsewhere and then brought...

How about "designer cues" instead of custom cues?

By "better" I mean higher quality. Whether that's the materials themselves and the fit and finish, etc. "Is every custom cue better than every production cue?" No, not necessarily. I don't think I even implied that. I think you're misunderstanding my point(s). Maybe this is partially my...

Meucci black dot shaft - like or not

I've been shooting Blackdots (among others such as OBs and Pechauer Pros) for decades. I like them overall. They have a 'soft hit' which is probably due more to the actual taper than how the shaft is constructed, and from one Meucci blackdot to the next they feel pretty consistent. They do...

How about "designer cues" instead of custom cues?

I think we're mostly in agreement. The one thing I'll modify is that "Custom" should mean "better than their standard." Otherwise it's just another product in a new suit, same as all the rest.

How about "designer cues" instead of custom cues?

"Custom" to me implies tailor made; something you can't just walk into a store or go online and buy. "Production" is a product made similar to other manufacturer's products with cost in mind. Years ago I tied flies for money. Fly fishing flies. I had two lines. One was production. Flies...

Do you remember your first pool hall?

I was talking with a friend today, a guy I've played with and against for almost 20 years now, and we got to reminiscing about the old haunts we used to play in and the stories of those places. Somewhere during our ramblings we got to our first pool hall. So mine was an actual pool hall back...

Reborn virgin looking at low deflection

A little busy right now, but besides Ebay and the Sell section here, you can look at PoolDawg.con for example: https://www.pooldawg.com/category/certified-preowned-pool-cues There's others, you just have to do a little diggin around. Good luck.

How to get more Power in my 8 ball Break

Agreed. However, the quality is so bad it's distracting. I was somewhat hoping that it was just my computer and not the video itself. One other thing about that break. You don't have to jump up like that. You can develop plenty of power just rolling forward onto the balls of your feet as...

How to get more Power in my 8 ball Break

The quality of that video is terrible. Good tips though. Something I feel he didn't stress enough, that noobs often misunderstand. The idea isn't to hit the ball HARD. The idea is to make the cue stroke as fast as possible. Often noobs buy the heaviest cue they can find to break with, and...

Reborn virgin looking at low deflection

I don't know that getting a LD shaft right now is your fastest and best path to improving your game right now. It could be, I suppose. It depends, IMO, a lot on where your game is right now, how solid your mechanics are, and so forth. However, since you asked about a cue under $400 I'll...

Ridiculous. But Efren gets those rolls because he's the Magician. No one else is Efren . . .
