    Playing sober, can’t do it

If I had to guess, your approach to playing now is to see if you'll play as well as you did before. You might be starting with a question, "how crap will I play today?" When you play, try to watch yourself. It wouldn't surprise me if, when you miss a shot, you're already standing up...

    My experience with Schmelke

I've had good experiences with Schmelke. Best was ordering a break cue, having a brain-fail and asking it turned down to 12mil like my player. They called me after I made the order, and we agreed to have them build a sensible breaker. Cue was cheap, breaks great. My player is also a...

    Amateur Pool vs Amateur Pickleball

Yeah. That is the future. It's a wiffle ball so you can do cool things with when the spin takes. I like a third shot and serve that are basically loops. Second shot is a chop. Can move shot left to right to jam up right-handers. Right now the game is full of tennis players, so you get a...

    Amateur Pool vs Amateur Pickleball

This is true. It's also what's great about the game. You get all the subtleties of table tennis, on a bigger court with lower barriers to entry. Right now, the tennis crossover people dominate pro pickleball. I think the future will belong to table tennis crossover players.

If funding for it ever became available, no sport would benefit more (on television) from advanced graphical models than nine ball

We're less than a month out from the Master's. If you watch you'll see more than four days of excellent tv production. There will be canned human interest packages about players, the golf course, golf history. They'll have interviews with retired players, beautiful B-roll, detailed course...

$30 for a piece of chalk...What's your favorite chalk to use?

Switched to V10 from Predator recently because I switched to harder tip (Tiger Everest). I liked Predator but it made a mess of my shafts and trousers and didn't adhere as well to the firmer tip. V10 is clean, holds well. I was very skeptical, but it really is better,

    Streaming pool camera input?

That's awesome. I'm glad it will work out for you. Chinese camera descriptions can be a bit...well ya know. Looking forward to seeing some of your streams and recordings.

    Streaming pool camera input?

That's a great price for PTZ. It says it has a 118 degree wide angle. You could get an idea of how it would work in your space with protractor and a couple of yard sticks. Or, for less precision, you can use a chair or stool to stand with your head about where the camera would be, and extend...

Do you “think” in “spoken language”?

This. No words when playing. I won't talk to anyone when I'm playing seriously. I try to stop talking/thinking in words a few minutes before I start playing. Just pictures. They are more accurate than words anyway.

    Newbie and nerves

Toastmasters is still a thing and it helps lots of people. But I think you are really on to something with enjoying the process. If you think of a talk or an engagement or a pool match as an opportunity for fun and success, you've already won. "Hey, this is an opportunity to show what I've...

    Newbie and nerves

This is a great thread. I'd recommend reading The Inner Game of Tennis: The Mental Side of Peak Performance. I'd also recommend an idea that has helped me in my career. I am an instructor and spokesperson for a large organization. When I started out with public speaking, Toastmasters and...

    Tournament Scoring App

Challonge is a good app. I've been mirroring a tablet with Tank to a Google Chrome TV so players can see the board. The game-making aspect has been fun, especially among players who know each other a little. It is fun to see tournament players have to negotiate a spot on the fly.

    Slipping on non-carpeted floors

I like boat shoes for this problem, and also because I like boats. Sperry Gold Cup ASVs, Bill Fish, and Sea Kites have great gum rubber soles with siping. Also, you don't look like you are going to the squash court after your match.

How to save professional pool...no, really.

Pool is always going to be a niche. participation sport in the United States. That's okay. Lots of niche participation sports survive. Golf is one. Watching golf isn't inherently entertaining like football or basketball. You don't have to play those games to understand that throwing a 50 yd...

How to save professional pool...no, really.

Where on god's earth do you think the 10 million comes from? If we gave every pro pool player of sufficient speed magic decoder rings it wouldn't make the purses any larger. This isn't even a theoretical discussion. In Asia there is bigger money in pool because loads of people play and aspire...

How to save professional pool...no, really.

I'm glad we agree on the solution, but I don't understand how 200 on the US PGA tour, or the 100s on the Euro and Asian tours, or the Korn Ferry tour guys are more exclusive than pool. It seems the problem is that pool is already way more exclusive than pro golf. Like three guys make a living...
