Dramatic, entertaining holiday reading: Billiards Digest behind the scenes in-depth at 2006 IPT World Open

Thanks for sharing. The photo of Charlie Williams up on the table made my day. I grew up about the same time in the same rooms in Norfolk and Newport News as The Dragon. Brings back memories. Great article as well.

Flying commercial airline, it appears I'll need to check my cue as baggage and cannot "carry-on". Thoughts/options?

I travel a lot to play golf and fish. Most airlines allow you to check a golf bag for the same price as a regular piece of checked luggage. I bring a half set of golf clubs, put my rods in rod tubes, tackle and tools, and most of my clothes in my rolling golf bag. A small scale helps to stay...

Slightly farther afield, but perhaps another option: http://wp.bankshotbar.com/ Between the two I prefer Center Pocket, but Bankshot may have an inhouse tournament that fits your timeline.

    Best home table?

Pickleball is a good an righteous game that will improve your pool game.* *might not actually improve your pool game. Olhausen would be my vote. I had one for years. It was a nice table. Looked good in the house and the pockets were only mildly infuriating.

What do you do when you're lost?

If you used to play sporty, it is more likely your mind than your body. I recently read Pleasures of Small Motions: Mastering The Mental Game Of Pocket Billiards and it helped me a lot. The big take-away is that thinking in words is antithetical to the embodied thinking that gets you in...

    Cases: Whitten vs. JB

I don't know who makes the best case, but I'm really happy with my case from Jill Hawk Custom Cases. It is one of a kind and exactly what I wanted. I have every confidence it will serve me for the rest of my life. The bonus, if Clyde and Jill were in my area, I'd love to have them over for...

APA inks deal with Diamond tables

You're so right. I don't spend hours and hours scoring APA 2s and 3s trying to pot a couple dozen balls on nine ball nights on Valleys. Can I send you the bill for my divorce attorney when my wife leaves me because league night takes two days?

APA inks deal with Diamond tables

This is the best news. I've been getting way too much sleep on league nights. If all the rooms move to Diamonds, I can get coffee on my way out of league night on the way to work.

On the demand side, new serious players want production cues. The J. Flowers is the gateway drug, and the Cuetec and Predator cues are the step up. I think the market looks a lot like the market for shotguns. It used to be that people liked finely tooled, high-end, hand-made stuff. Now they...

    Tale of two tables

I don't have any advice to add, but I think you are doing a cool thing. I hope you get the tables sorted out to the old standard and enjoy them.

    Stay With One Game ?

Y I find this to be true. Playing 1P, and to a lesser degree 8 Ball is a bit of an obstacle to playing smooth 9/10 ball. It is more the pacing/flow of the game that gets upset. I like to think 9/10 is 90% execution, 10% deliberation. 1P can often be the opposite. Switching between system 1...

    Atlantic City Travel Advice

If I had to guess you were somewhere in the middle of the beach. Five blocks either side of 16th Street isn't so great. Somehow that's where a lot of tourism happens, then you get cheesy businesses, then pan handlers, then drugs, then the city decides to do homeless outreach there. They did...

    Atlantic City Travel Advice

I grew up down in Va Beach and still have family there. I'm curious where you were staying. The town has improved a lot in recent years. The north end has always been pretty nice, and now the south end, near 1st Street and Rudy's Inlet is nice. Sorry you didn't have a good time. If you're...

"Mutton Chops" - Jill Hawk Cue Case

I'm the lucky owner of this case. I posted a quick review here if you are interested: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/jill-hawk-custom-case-leg-o-mutton.546960/ Short version: great folks, great case, couldn't be happier. I like to think that in a world of Corvette and Ferrari custom...

    Jill Hawk Custom Case, Leg-O-Mutton

I just wanted to post a short note about a great experience with Jill and Clyde and Jill Hawk Cases. I had been using cheap vinyl cases for many years because I couldn't quite find something that fit my eye. A lot of the leather cases have a Harley Davidson/Western vibe that isn't quite to my...

How many Cues do you own today

Currently 3 or 4 depending on how you count. 2x Schmelke, 1 break, 1 player, 1x ebay sneaky pete, 1x 90s Viking which I bought when I was a kid. I left the Viking with a friend who has since gone AWOL. Not sure I'll see that cue or my friend again. Kind of a sad story.
