The Value of NOT Playing Pool (especially when you are struggling)

That's a really tough situation. I hope you find a way to play your best in league and similar. You might check out a couple of books for the mental side. I've found Zen in the Art of Archery and The Inner Game of Tennis both as good books to help get the mind and body on the same page. Best...

    This is Ames Mister

In the cities there's a huge opportunity to open 24 hour 'key clubs'. There's tons of unused class b and c commercial space since work from home became a thing. A membership model makes lots of sense. Give folks a 24/7 private experience for a fraction of a country club. It seems like a good...

What shoes do you wear to play pool in?

Grunden flip flops. None better. I've tried them all.

    New player, cue advice needed

One consideration about sneaky Pete's if you play in bars is that the bangers sometimes mistake them for house cues as you come back from the bog to find some guy playing with your cue and/or a league player is using it with a bridge attachment. Less of a concern with the more modern not so...

    Pool in Peru Report

The more likely reason to miss way up there is losing consciousness during the match. They have oxygen ready at the La Paz airport because people fall out all the time waiting for the luggage carousel.

    Pool in Peru Report

A few rooms in La Paz Bolivia are probably a fraction higher. There's one in El Alto that almost certainly is. But Cusco is really high.

Pool tournament information Eastern NC, VA?

I've heard reports of tournaments at Peninsula Billiards in Newport News, and The Corner Pocket in Williamsburg VA. On the Eastern Shore, Choptank Bowling and Billiards is a big room with lots of events and tournaments. You live in one of my favorite places on earth.

    Tournament software for lives competition

I developed a similar app. You give players a bankrole and they gamble however they like until they run out of money. You could mandate the bet to get your desired effect. It is free. No ads. No data collection. Let me know if you use it...

    Pool room app

You could probably commission one for not too much money. I designed and had built an app for running poker-style pool tournaments. With a good RFP, and ready to go wire frames, a simple app can be done offshore for a few hundred. Here's my app...

    Cavernous Pockets...

That might be true for pure pocketing. Like putting to smaller cups. And if you want to use cup reducers before the club championship, you do you. The gaff table is an artifact of gambling. A way for the local boys to get over on the road guys. Then, the road guys get good at playing on...

    Cavernous Pockets...

Board, distance, and darts are all exactly the same for all players of the game. Same for table tennis. In the early aughts, there was a big controversy in table tennis when the ball regulation was changed from 38mm to 40mm in diameter. Some pros threatened to quit. Somehow the sport...

    Cavernous Pockets...

Dom Somehow I can go to Dick's Sporting Goods and buy a basketball goal made by any number of manufacturers and the height and diameter will be within 1% of spec. Same with a ball. I can buy 1000 table tennis balls and they'll all be within a fraction of mil or so of spec. Deliberately...

    Cavernous Pockets...

I wish we could just settle on a standard set up for all competitions for each game. It doesn't really matter what the standard is, it is just a pain having to switch, especially when otherwise identical tables can be set up very differently. The game isn't like golf, where every one of tens or...

Does Practicing on Fast Cloth (760) Make You Better on Standard Speed Cloth (860HR)?

I don't think one helps the other either way. I do know I hate switching. The closest room to me has very slow cloth, but my league room has Andy 860 equivalent. Practicing at the closer room is worse than useless. I think standardized equipment would be a great thing for pool in the US. I...

    Playing sober, can’t do it

You might also try playing at different times. Try playing at the beginning of your work day. For me, I'm used to being sharp and sober at 9:00am. I play fine sober in the morning. But 7pm is relaxing time. It's like trying to play at 1pm without lunch.

    Playing sober, can’t do it

Sorry. It is a kind of technical term in trap and skeet shooting. It just means a sort of general, wide focus. Sharp eyes would be once you've acquired a specific target and you are intently aiming. Soft eyes are when you are lightly focusing on a relatively large area waiting for a target...
