Heyball live in Qatar, low viewers

A big reason is that it’s on a relatively small platform and wasn’t well promoted. They have 12k subscribers and don’t update. One thing that any promotion can learn from matchroom, if you have ever even heard of them, they‘ll find you and won’t let you forget that their next tournament is in...

    Thoughts on Pattern Racking/Rack Manipulation?

The other tricky part to this is that once you understand which balls go where depending on the break, you may not be explicitly pattern racking but will stop and think “nope I don’t want to put the 3 ball there if the 4 ball is here“. It takes honesty to place if somewhere that you know could...

2024 AZB Ghost Challenge - Official Thread

I think you may be a touch better than your Fargo suggests unless I’m totally misunderstanding the capabilities of the various Fargo levels :). I think I recently heard the ghost complain that he had to go and play the Poolmanis!

2024 AZB Ghost Challenge - Official Thread

I too played the 10 ball ghost until I missed. Final score 0-1. At least it was a close match.

Artificial intelligence (Google's AI) making up stuff about pool

I’m not an expert, but I think there is just so little out there for it to source on pool topics that it pulls a mix of bad information and fills in the blanks on its own based on whatever prediction algorithms or some such. It has the potential to hallucinate on any topic, but I find it’s...

    2024 World 8 Ball Championship (2-8 Sep), New Zealand , Winner $75K

He did, or at least in the same “season”. Alcano replicated the feat winning the 9 ball title in 2006 and 8 ball title in 2007.

    What is a Shortstop?

I don’t know but I asked ChatGPT and I assume what it says must be correct, “Ah, the **shortstop**—a role so critical, yet so intricately woven into the fabric of the game that its importance is often understated. To understand the shortstop is to grasp a deeper concept of defense, agility, and...

    US Open-The Other Way Around

And for a more direct comparison, the 2022 edition of the WPM was on 4” pockets and had a 5 pack, 4 pack and three 3 packs. Unfortunately there isn’t much data on winner breaks events on 4” pockets with easy breaking rules. I think the 2021 edition was the first year for 4” pockets but there...

    What is your HIGH RUN?

Wait, all y’all have cleared a table before??

The smaller pockets are helping the weak players, its very deep and people don't see it.

No, but if you were to pull data from the 2022, 2023 and 2024 of the UK Open for example, you’d know that you were getting results on 4.25”, 4” and 3.85” respectively.

We need Mike Page to give us comparative break downs of performances across the different pocket sizes. Otherwise you can pull anecdotes or think up scenarios to support either position.

Was there a rule create for Efren's Z shot?

Almost certainly not. Two reasons why this would be ridiculous, 1. Purposefully potting balls off multiple cushions is sufficiently difficult and rare, making against would be like outlawing basketball players from shooting from behind half court. It serves no purpose. 2. Efren was never...

Break Stats -- 2024 European Open Pool Championship (9-Ball), August 2024

Based on the run out percentage after making the first ball of the rack, players performed a bit better this event than in the Uk Open (51% vs 46%) but not as well as last years European Open (57%). It appears the break was a particular challenge in this event.

The smaller pockets are helping the weak players, its very deep and people don't see it.

One exception is doing a draw break where you play to draw cue ball back two rails tends to leave the 1 near the side. It’s not a soft break but it would fail the 3 point rule often if it were applied. I remember Shane practicing this few years ago before the break box was implemented. Thats...

The smaller pockets are helping the weak players, its very deep and people don't see it.

Looking specifically at the 4” pockets, I don’t have exhaustive data on all of the matches but in terms of winners we‘ve been getting mostly the expected faces winning. Shaw, Kaci, Gorst, SVB, Filler etc. If anything it seems like many of format changes has narrowed the winners pool. What is...

The smaller pockets are helping the weak players, its very deep and people don't see it.

I have to feel like more turns at the table has to favour the better player. It seems as though the games that have the most consistency in its winners are snooker, 3 cushion and one pocket which consequently also tend to have more back and forth.

    Learning

I think this is basically correct, since you do mention the value of a good instructor When we consider the thousands of hours of play and practice we go through, much of that is on your own. So unless you have a world class coach as a Siamese twin it’s really up to you to experiment and...

    Famous 3-Cushion world record run.

My 3 Cushion high run is 0. I got a chance to try it almost 10 years ago. Our game of 3 cushion turned into 1 cushion. Which then transformed into straight rail.
