WORLD 10 BALL CHAMPIONSHIP (28March-1April2022), Las Vegas, Winner $60K

Assuming we are talking about the same thing, the nice thing about matchroom is they have two sessions and you know that you can sit down for 4-6 hour sessions of pool. But for this tournament (and the pro billiard series), they finish the first match and there is an hour wait (or more) until...

WORLD 10 BALL CHAMPIONSHIP (28March-1April2022), Las Vegas, Winner $60K

Nice post, I always assumed that the primary motivation for overpaying the winners was for marketing purposes. It looks good to say that you should have $60,000 first prize. I agree with you though that this doesn’t grow the sport. Also, the other downside to the seeding this year that I...

Jayson Shaw’s World Record 714 High Run Video

Last year at the American 14.1 event they allowed 100+ ball runs to continue. But since these matches were played on 4.5” diamonds, I don’t think anyone is worried about 700+ ball runs. Or even 300+.

    Players Attempting to Unionize?

I have no idea what Kelly Fishers financial situation is so I won’t comment. But those net worth sites are highly dubious. Especially when dealing with fringe celebrities where very little about their financials are publicly posted.

How much longer must we endure this insane format CSI is pushing

I understand this, but I still would be interested in seeing the data to get a better understanding of how it works. I’m not math guy so I know I could be completely wrong in all my assumptions. It makes sense that this would in theory be just like a race to 8, but the interesting wrinkle is...

How much longer must we endure this insane format CSI is pushing

H i know Mike posted a video on this before. Although it sound convincing, I’d love to see the data sets that were being used. I don’t think a 700 player has a better shot at beating SVB in this format per se. But it’s hard for me to believe there isn’t a slightly increased chance of a, for...

    Players Attempting to Unionize?

I can’t speak for everyone but I think at least some people are having flashbacks to previous association/union attempts that scuttled promising opportunities. So in that case it’s less of an anti-union sentiment and more of a concern that history might repeat itself. But we really don’t know...

    Players Attempting to Unionize?

Lots of sports have a players association, though I understand that is different from a union. That said, I hope the players don’t overplay their hand and jeopardize some of the promising opportunities they have in front of them.

How much longer must we endure this insane format CSI is pushing

Pool is a bit more complicated than that. One day she walks in, it’s 9 ball and someone slops a ball and keeps shooting. The next time in 10 ball they don’t get to keep shooting. Another day the opponent has the option to pass it back. But then in a 9 ball tournament, someone breaks and...

    Safety play options

Danny D has been calling for this safety to played on 14.1 matches for over a decade. He always says it’s as good as a breakshot.

    Shaw 714 DVD

Here is one of Earl's videos, I don't know what they are using, maybe the table was tapped. But there is no rack being used at any time that I could see.

All participants used the permarack. Everyone was getting wide-open spreads.

    Trump

Ronnie has used different cues. I think he famously gave his cue away after a loss., Neil Robertson has switched things up in the past. John Higgins switched things up as recently as 2019 and is claiming to be playing the best snooker of his life. I did a quick check and Judd Trump switched...

    Trump

I think the whole thing about snooker players not being able to return to their prior standard after losing a cue was simply a superstition and a self-fulfilling prophecy. In recent years, it’s not uncommon for top players to switch cues and not miss a step.

    Shaw 714 DVD

I would be surprised if a digital download or another option isn’t available at some point. Either, he sells out the 714 copies, or, he doesn’t sell out. In the first instances it would be evident that he is leaving money on the table by not meeting the demand. In the second instance, it...

Practice table size 9’ or 10’

I agree, I think practicing on a tight 9 foot table will make club tables feel familiar but easier. Moving from a 10 foot to a 9 foot will certainly feel easier, but the game is different enough at the larger size to require an adjustment. Adjusting from a 4.25" pocket to a 4.75" pocket...

Predator brings back World 8 Ball Championship (14-20 Nov2022)

From a marketing standpoint I think it introduces some challenges. Having dual tours basically means that it hampers each other’s ability to grow in so far as they either need to work around each other or compete directly with one another. For example, Matchroom would not be able to introduce...

Is there another option? I don’t really care about the extra stuff, I just want to see the run.

    WPA license

No the requirement was that they couldn’t play in a US Open 9 ball like tournament. But no one knew what that meant. My best guess is that if someone decided to promote a rival US Open 9 ball tournament, you wouldn’t be allowed to play.
