    True or False

Thanks Stu. We may be taking a trip to Cape Cod that weekend, but if not, and we do make the short trip to TS, I'll be sure to introduce myself.

    True or False

Same here, I find myself scanning the first row or two of the crowd when watching any pool event. Stu, I almost met you once up at Turning Stone. Saw you there, and even walked over and stood next to you for a bit in that lane between the two rows of tables, but you were talking with someone...

    True or False

I grew up north of there, but Asbury Park was always the last of the "Sportsman" shows for a given year. Usually they were right before Easter. They had them in the Convention Center, and in the late 70s and early 80s, that place was showing it's age. I can remember that there was a...

    Rule I’m not sure about

While APA has their own version and interpretation of the rules for pool, it is, at it's core, a business. Remember that the purpose was not to set up a structure that would ensure a fair and unbiased competition, it was to create a self-sustaining business that uses entertainment value of...

    Rule I’m not sure about

Not specifically. Calling "safe" prior to shooting is not an option in APA. In APA, their term is "Defensive Shot", and in Note 1 under Defensive Shots, it states that: "An attempted Defensive Shot that results in the legal pocketing of one of the shooter’s category of balls (8-Ball) or the...

    Rule I’m not sure about

In the APA, if you have an open table, and make legal contact with a ball (which at that point, is any ball besides the 8), and a ball drops into a pocket, then you have that group of balls and you keep shooting. In NAPA, with an open table, you can tell your opponent you are playing a safety...

Or at the least, a new band for it.

    Mud balls

We have one location that uses the big, heavy, dirty looking cue ball, I always called it the mud ball. They also have the shittiest tables with 30 year old, dead balls, dead cushions and dirty, worn out cloth on the tables. Only one table uses the mud ball cue, the other has the maroon dot...

    Funny pic/gif thread...

Had a similar thing happen once. A buddy and I that used to hang together a bit were at a popular night spot together. This was one of those big, multi-room places popular in the late 70s and early 80s that had a rock room with a big stage, a disco room with the mirror ball and lighted...

    10 ball rule verification

Can you give the shot back after a called safe as well? That doesn't really make it much of a safe then if they don't have to deal with your leave.

    10 ball rule verification

I've always played that the 10 would get spotted and the incoming shooter plays the cue from where it is, not a ball in hand foul. I've never heard about passing the shot back.

Just for fun, How round is a billiard ball?

Some interesting stuff here. It reminds me of all the hype about the mirror for the Hubble Space Telescope when that was first deployed: "Laser tools were then used to polish the surfaces so that they would not deviate from the desired curve by more than 1/800,000th of an inch. To emphasize...

    There are Pool Angels

Just seeing this for the first time this morning. What a great way to start the day! A big takeaway here is that God helps those that help themselves, and the world is still full of good people. Thanks for posting and for bumping it so I could read it!

How to get chalk out of a cue case?

…..or wipe the chalk off the tip and shaft before you put them away.

    Cleaning balls: wtf happened?!

Interesting that they rate Phenolic as a D for "salad dressing", but don't have anything listed for vinegar, acetic acid, or oils. And their alphabetical list seems to go rogue somewhere in the middle for a bit. Neat table though, thanks for posting.

met earl strickland yesterday in Albany. Videos coming

There is a picture of her and him on Facebook, not sure if it was Earl's page or the Capital Region APA page. I was the last one to play him Friday night and she took that pic with him right after he finished with me. You are right, she was exceedingly nice. So from watching him play a few...

met earl strickland yesterday in Albany. Videos coming

I was at the Cap Center and watched you play him once skiergd011013, and he did come over to talk with you more than a few times. You played well in the games with Earl that I saw. I lost to him in both games that I played against him too. Hanging around and watching and talking a bit with...

    Funny pic/gif thread...

There is a scene from the Miami Vice series, way back in the first season, where a guy named Jim Zubiena does a Mozambique on a guy that has him at gunpoint. Jim was one of the original guys in the International Practical Shooters Confederation, or IPSC, and this was a very often used scenario...

played in my first tournament (long winded recap)

Good tips there, especially about having another competitor to talk with. Someone that knows your game and can offer some feedback is exceedingly helpful when you're not fully centered in your comfort zone. And completely agree with the hysteresis, there are times when every shot looks easy...
