Fedor Gorst - looking for action in Louisville, KY tomorrow. If you could - would you?

I agree. He's not really "looking for action". He's looking for donations while he practices. I'd respect him more if he posted something like "if I don't know you, I'll give up the 7 and 8 in 9 ball or 10-6 in one pocket". Then, at least a decent shortstop would have a fighting chance. He'd...

    Turning Stone

Wow, 2007. I can't believe it was that long ago; I was there watching and it seemed like 7 or 8 years ago. Never mind that young comment I made, I thought he was mid 20s. Still a good dude though.

    Turning Stone

I'm happy for Morra. I don't know him personally, but he seems like a humble gentleman, an asset and ambassador to our sport. I never heard anything bad about him. I believe he took 2nd place at the Turning Stone when he was 15 or 16 years old. Hopefully this performance will stoke his...

    Turning Stone

I drive as many balls as the next guy into rails so I can't be critical, but I would much rather watch high-level, beautiful pool be played instead of guys like me. I'm not sure what the solution is but the problem is the decreasing talent level making it less fun to watch...let alone attend...

    Turning Stone

Seems like the proportion of pros has decreased dramatically from ~15 years ago.

    Turning Stone

I think Sossei has been playing the best pool of his life the last year or two.

Tournament fees are out of control

Judging someone on how much disposable income they have ain't cool. My dad never had extra money but it's because he spent every dime he made (working two jobs) on his family and not himself.

Turning Stone Classic XXXVIII Set For This Week

I don't have a FB account. Any other way to view live matches?

    JK custom information ?

A cue could look really nice and initially play well, but if the maker didn't understand the importance and indicatrices of properly drying the wood (or didn't care enough), the cue has a good likelihood of turning banana shaped in a year or two.

    acme pin joint protectors

5/16-14 Acme, like a JW? I didn't know Scruggs made any of those. Anyway, I'm not a machinist but I have an idea that might be worth exploring. I believe if you take a regular 5/16-14 joint protector and chased the threads out several times to make them sloppy, I believe you could get them to...

Tournament fees are out of control

This place was big and had a lot of tables (~40). That tournament started at noon and was always over by 3. So for that large room that could free up tables fast, it was a huge money maker drawing in all those players so early. Granted, nobody drove any distance for that small money, but we...

Tournament fees are out of control

Around 40-45 years ago, the room I played at had a weekly tournament on Saturdays. It was a single elimination race to 4. $10 entry fee (no table time, no handicaps) and the room owner added $50 regardless of the number of entries. That tournament got 40-60 people every week of all skill...

Tournament fees are out of control

I'm cheap too so here's my advice: Change your perspective and compare it to how much more everything costs today. A round of golf probably averages around $70 and every time I take the ol' lady out for dinner (which is often) it usually costs me around $100 after tax and the tip (and we don't...

    Mizerak Cues

The story I heard was he critical of Searing's early work told him he needed to improve his quality (specifically, the evenness of his points).

    Mizerak Cues

He designed and played with a Scruggs for a while. I owned one of those cue and it had a letter from Steve. Shooulda kept that.

Custom and High End Cues on the Decline?

I used to think that too. On my home table (in the basement), I play with McDermotts with the higher-end McDermott shafts. I've always liked McDermotts. Every once in a while, though, I'll bring down a Gus to play with. I play noticeable better with my Gus. I can't explain why, but it's not...

    Solid vs layered tips

Back in the 70s through the 80s, the pool room I went to installed tips for $6 (choice of tip and labor). I used to complain about that $6!

    Fedor health update, successful surgery.

I probably have this (I have a boxer's nose and snore like a chainsaw).

Thoughts ... Russian Kenny is out of prision

They always auction off the pool last, but it does get sold. Someone owns everyone by the time the Calcutta is done.
