I guess I am the "Get off my lawn!" guy....

Yes, you are wrong. The better player was winning in the olden days, the better player is winning today. The difference is that everybody is having more fun now when they play.

No, I meant to ask why would you use a revo as a breaker?

Does cold temps hurt a Pool Table

The first few years I had my Valley, it'd occasionally dip to -30 or colder in my uninsulated garage. I'm thinking if that didn't hurt it, nothing will.

STRAIGHT POOL Strategy and “Run Your Age” Challenge

I've put 2 videos in this thread. Valley with shimmed pockets. All we play on it is straight pool, probably 12+ hours/week, maybe more. Literally thousands of hours. Crowding on it is worse than on a 9 foot, but shotmaking is easier. I keep detailed records (made easy by the app we use) and my...

STRAIGHT POOL Strategy and “Run Your Age” Challenge

I only started playing about 5 years ago, wish I had found it sooner. Best pool game there is in my opinion. I try to push it whenever I can, it's the only game that runs in my garage. Challenge progress: Put in another 2 hours today, didn't get into the third rack once. Garage is going into...

STRAIGHT POOL Strategy and “Run Your Age” Challenge

Day one went pretty good, was seeing pretty clearly. Had a couple 28s, a few around 24, and this one was my best attempt at 31: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBmOh3FnB00 Have to try again tomorrow.

STRAIGHT POOL Strategy and “Run Your Age” Challenge

Great challenge Dave! I'll definitely be participating. Everyone always talks about drills to practice, but I find it very boring and doesn't hold my interest. I play 1 player straight pool instead. This seems to get my complete focus, similar to if I'm playing tournaments or cash. Best practice...

    Entry/mid level low deflection cue

Way to butt into the "When does swerve become masse" thread. I think that's a great way to go about it. Get a butt you'll be happy with long term, preferably one that uses a popular joint style, and upgrade down the road.

    Entry/mid level low deflection cue

No. I'm saying the path the cueball will take is the same. The input you give to the cue will be different. Every one of these shots describe swerve or masse. No. It won't. Once the aiming point is compensated for, the path of the cueball will be identical with either cue.

    Entry/mid level low deflection cue

No. There is a path the cueball must take to make any shot. That path is the same no matter if you use an LD shaft, a SD shaft, or a woodchuck with a leather tip glued on his nose. The only thing the cueball cares about is force, and where it was applied. Moving the cueball to the right only...

    Entry/mid level low deflection cue

I think I have shown the shot you are describing. To make it, the cueball must swerve along the white line to hit the rail where indicated with extreme right english, no matter what shaft you use. The only difference between a LD shaft and SD shaft is that to get the cueball to follow this...

    Entry/mid level low deflection cue

LD shafts aren't quite as robust either. Not an issue if you're not planning on breaking with your cue, but it is another thing to consider. Besides that, and cost (which you have already acknowledged) there is really nothing to be gained from a traditional shaft. Despite what some posters...

Best way to clean and maintain a wood shaft

To be fair it would take about 13 lifetimes to ruin a shaft with 1500 grit sandpaper. To clean I do: 1. Magic eraser with soapy water (water! Oh no, the humanity!) 2. Dry well 3. Sand with 1500 4. Burnish with wool cloth Done. I don't use any kind of wax or sealer, as that seems to trap...
