It probably was old fiber ferrules, which would tend to shrink over time and a gap would develop at the base. The newer fiber ferrules don't shrink, the formula has been improved. Otherwise it could be ABS.

Speaking of cues, I still regret not buying this incredible Cohen when I was there last time, direct from Eddie. Sadly I saw it for sale on here the following week for $2k more than I could have purchased for. Resellers make me sad, but it's my own fault ☹️

Very true, in a perfect world it doesn't matter. Playing with deflection in mind is another great point as it really depends on how comfortable you are with your equipment, to know exactly where the cue is going. I think this the difference for me, that I establish my aiming before my last look...

If you're perfectly lined up, what's the point of looking at the object ball? Wouldn't you want to make sure that you're hitting the micro dot on the cue ball in which you're aiming? Genuine question to spark additional (I hope) meaningful conversation.

I typically look at the cue ball last to verify my point of contact and my eyes immediately shift to the object ball upon contact.
