    Magic Chalk :)

I've tried BD and I think it's very messy, regardless of price.

    Magic Chalk :)

OK, we don't really need another chalk thread, but just wanted to talk about my experience because I'm firmly in the "Master is good enough" camp. And Master IS good enough...really is. It works and it's cheap. That said, Magic Chalk works better, is much neater, and....ready for this.....seems...

    Coning shafts on Hightower lathe

I guess it's pretty easy to offset the butt taper bar. My own experience with a different kind of woodworking tends to match up with your experience, i.e. the wood's going to move wherever it wants regardless and you just need enough left over to cleanup the wobbles. Being so new to it I'm still...

    Coning shafts on Hightower lathe

I thought about that but I didn't think it would work with a drive center in the head. Maybe I shouldn't have assumed that? Thanks!

    Newbie:playing 14.1 correctly

Pretty much this one thing has improved my game a lot. When I start running into open balls, I never seem to get a lucky roll. It always gets worse, and the run ends.

    Coning shafts on Hightower lathe

Curious how everyone cones shafts if you have a Hightower lathe? If I just use a standard butt taper, it's too much of an angle to take the shaft down very much. If I use the shaft taper I like, it takes a ton off the front of the shaft but barely touches the joint end until I get pretty close...

    Diamonds trapping balls

Are those last two videos how these tables are supposed to play? I can't imagine slopping in balls like that at any speed. Would certainly make the game a lot easier, though!

    Good heavens.

8 Ball - Rack High? Rack Low?

The ball goes on the spot. UPA rules allow you to rack within 1 dime's radius of the spot (the actual spot...the infinitely small point that is the spot, not what ever happens to be the spot sticker). A Simonis spot sticker, for example, is about twice as that tolerance, so if you're anywhere...

To Concede Or Not To Concede - That Is The Question

Playing pool I don't think pros should ever conceded because they're all capable of running however many balls or racks necessary to win. Some of the greatest pool ever is when someone misses and the opponent runs 150 and out.

Nick Varner 14.1 Seminar Chicago this Monday

Thanks! I never even thought of checking Accu-stats. I don't have much for instructional videos or books here, so I don't even really much know what's out there other than what I luck upon online. :)

Nick Varner 14.1 Seminar Chicago this Monday

Are there any good videos of Nick playing 14.1? Honestly, I can't ever remember seeing one. Can't find much out there with Mizerak either.

Do you have to play for Cash?

The closest I come to playing for cash is I play in a little unofficial straight pool league that has some payouts at the end. I play for enjoyment, plain and simple. I do it after I'm done working. Why would I want to turn it into a money thing? It's like going back to work. It's enough that I...

    Worst pool video ever...

You guys are crazy. This is the best friggin' pool video EVER. I went to the bank to take out a loan a few days ago. I needed a new Rolls Royce. I handed the bank man a bunch of trophies for collateral, and he told me to scram, just like Jimmy said.

if you're throwing your back out playing pool on any cloth, don"t know what to tell you.

    Tip Centering tool

I just use the concave live center. There's a special tool? What's it look like?

Todays equilizer? And a fix? Fast cloth

When I was a teen growing up, the conventional wisdom, even from the old timers, was that the fast "tournament" cloth was much harder to play on because it was tough to hang on to the cue ball. I'm surprised to hear just the opposite now, 30 years later.

Todays equilizer? And a fix? Fast cloth

I always thought it was a little harder to play on fast cloth too. I don't really see the slow cloth disadvantage. How much power do you actually need to play a stupid game of pool?

Recent Purchase - Le Pro Tips

Just tried some I ordered from Muellers.15mm. First one was a piece of garbage. It was falling apart just sanding the back for gluing, but I tried it anyway. Yeah, junk. Just cut it off and tried another one. It's fine, just like the old Le Pros I remember. I'll play with it a bit tonight just...

    Short backswing, long follow through?

When I think of a short stroke, I think of guys like Grady Mathews, that don't necessarily have a short stubby stroke so much as have a stroke just barely long enough to make the shot. This is in contrast to someone like Neil Feijen, who always has a long stroke even on slow shots. Hopkins and...
