    Is your game on fire?

Considering that's exactly what I expected gasoline on a pool table would do, I'm kind of curious what they thought might happen instead.

Video: Archer's lining up a shot. Earl, 3 games behind, begins his sharking moves

THAT was sharking? LOL. I've always liked Archer, but it was painful to watch him spend all afternoon lining up the crappiest shot on the table. Not really sure why he wanted that 15 so badly.

    The killer instinct

I've always been competitive, and I hate to loose. That said, I'd rather get my butt kicked than have someone "go easy" on me. It's just a sign of respect to give an opponent your absolute best game. Anytime I feel like I'm loosing focus, or even heaven forbid feeling a little bad for a weaker...

    Short backswing, long follow through?

I've shortened my backstroke considerably since I started playing 14.1. Running 6 or 7 balls (like 9 ball) is one thing, but when I'm trying to run 20 or 30, cheating pockets/sneaking balls in, and play very precise position, I feel like it's a lot easier to shoot very precisely with a shorter...

Does being a strong player make you a better cue builder??

That was probably me. I know of many luthiers that don't play at all. It's a lot more common with luthiers that build violins family instruments than those that build guitars, because let's be honest - it's just not that hard to strum a few chords on a guitar and everyone learns. Violin is...

Recent Purchase - Le Pro Tips

I just bought a box of 15mm tips. We'll see how it goes. Would be nice if the quality was back.

Thoughts on Lucasi Hybrid and other mid range cues?

I just got back a couple of weeks ago. See you in a couple of years!

Thoughts on Lucasi Hybrid and other mid range cues?

Next time I'm in Finland, can I come over and play?

CDX - are they done for.

You have 180 days now! As long as you didn't send as a gift, you're golden. If you sent as a gift, you're screwed of course, but hopefully you didn't do that. Sometimes my customers do me a favor and send something as a "gift". I always refund it and make them do it on the up and up so there's...

CDX - are they done for.

Huh? They provide you with possibly the BEST protection of any other payment method on the planet.

Recent Purchase - Le Pro Tips

Holy crap, really? What size are you guys buying? I would love it if Le Pros got consistent again. I like my UltraSkins, but only because it reminds me of a nice Le Pro. I miss just having a simple piece of leather up there.

    Chris Hightower pool cue

Threads seem to start deep, too. Maybe there's an insert buried in there? Looks neat. :) HOW DOES IT PLAY?

    Another USPS horror story

To be fair, I wouldn't carry my cues to the pool hall unprotected in a cardboard box. Why would you ship them unprotected in a cardboard box. Yeah, you need a heavy cardboard tube of some sort inside, at least.

    Smoking and Pool Halls

The old owner of Fieldston Billiards in the Bronx (my old home room, and the largest pool hall in the USA at one time) said that the smoking ban contributed a great deal to killing his business.

Jayson Shaw victim or defeated foe

I don't think the 2 was ever even a consideration. The carom was still the 10, carom off the 11. Just from the video, it looks like he didn't have a full pocket to shoot at, so it wouldn't have been unreasonable to let the 10 run into the 11 a little bit instead of risking cheating the pocket...

    Another USPS horror story

FWIW, I use USPS almos exclusively for my business. Occasionally a package disappears and shows up 2 weeks later (happens about once a year). To date, with may hundreds of packages shipped, they've never actually lost one. The reason I use them is I've found them to be the most reliable out of...

yesterday (9/10) was a sad day for billiards!

I think the rule already is written like that, isn't it? I'm surprised that Bob would have ruled differently. Surely an alert ref would have at least asked for clarification.

yesterday (9/10) was a sad day for billiards!

Do the rules you play by specifically say that you must "mark" the pocket? If so, then this is actually a little different (though it's still a crappy move by the opposing captain). The rules we use for 14.1, and most call shot games, is the you must make your INTENTION obvious. That means that...

Jayson Shaw victim or defeated foe

Do you play 14.1? That's not how the game is played. Read the rules. The problem is the ref and TD are making it up as they go along. The only point of "verbal communication", pointing or anything else is to make your intention clear. Nothing takes precedence over communicating your intention...
