You spend a lot of time in straight pool calling shots out of clusters. I think it would be pretty hard to track that the right ball went into the pocket. :) If you get rid of the call shot requirement, then it wouldn't matter.

FWIW, I get the most spin with harder tips. Close up it doesn't matter much. Far away, I find I have to use way more power to get the same cue ball speed, and thus the same spin by the time I get to the ball. I must have gone through 15 different tips in the last few weeks, just to see for...
