    Glue joint test

Just a couple more things to add: Hot hide glue has EXCELLENT heat resistance. Most people think it's poor, but they're thinking about moist heat...steam, for example. Stick it in an oven and you'll be very surprised how well it holds up. I generally really like hot hide glue. Give Titebond...

    Coring, tolerances?

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. Stuff like this isn't for the faint of heart. Truthfully, I'm heading back to engineering/management now that I have 3 year old twin girls to provide for and take care of. I'll still do what I do, but more as a little hobby that maybe pays for a vacation, or...

    Coring, tolerances?

FWIW, in the guitar building world, we tend to all be very open and sharing. We help each other out, refer customers to each other, share techniques and design ideas, etc. There are a couple of guys that feel like they have a secret here and there, but it's pretty rare. In fact, we take pride in...

    Coring, tolerances?

I actually looked for that not too long ago for a project I was working on. I wanted to try something new. Couldn't find a US source for it. At least not a retail source. I could probably find an industrial supplier if I really wanted to, though I doubt they'd want to sell be a small bottle. :)...

    Coring, tolerances?

That foams up too. Not as much as Gorilla Glue. Excel One is generally a much better glue. It would probably be my first choice if I wanted a PU. You shouldn't really see the foamies in a reasonably tight joint regardless, though. If you've used it, you know the foam has the consistency...

Irving crane vs Joseph balsis 150 and out

I've watched this many times over the years. Crane has a few really creative shots in there. The best part is towards the end when he almost scratches. His reaction is priceless.

    Racking Cloth????

I don't remember where but I've seen where there's a cloth stapled to the back of the rack. I used to play there quite often so I'm surprised I can't remember where, but it was an older pool hall.

Shaft/Tip Diameter Help - Good/Bad Reasons to go smaller

When people talk about shaft or tip size, they mean the size at the end of the ferrule. It's assumed that the tip is fit properly to the ferrule.

Shaft/Tip Diameter Help - Good/Bad Reasons to go smaller

Smaller shaft isn't going to help with spin. If you want to get more spin with the same cue position, put a smaller radius on the tip. It will make it more sensitive AND keep the hit closer to the center line of the cue. A bigger shaft has disadvantages shooting a frozen ball off a rail and...

Please Tell What Really Nice Thing Has Happened To You As A Direct Result Of AZB

YOU sold me my main playing cue. It was exactly what I was looking for. Got into cue building and have had many nice conversations with one cue builder in particular who has really been quite generous with his time. Hope I can return the favor someday. Played Mikko in Finland (thanks Mikko...

    Vision/focus issues

It helps to keep you eyes focused on the table even when you're not shooting. Good lighting is important too. The smaller your pupils are, the better you will focus...that's just basic optics. If your eyes are dilated because of dim lighting, you will have a harder time of things. Are you a new...

Gloves - Strictly Personal Preference or Check Materials etc....

I never used a glove in 30 years of playing. I keep my shafts in very good shape so I never really need one. A few months ago I started playing at a friends house. His basement gets very hot and humid in the summer because it's a pretty new setup and he hasn't had a chance to install an air...

    Coring, tolerances?

Here's the thing, and that glue test you posted in the other thread had the same problem (I remember when that article came out, and actually remember thinking this same exact thing even back then). Polyurethane glues have to be applied in a thin layer and clamped. A good fit, or even tight fit...

Why do some pool players hold their grip so far back (to the end of the cue)?

Just of the top of my head, Thorsten Hohmann does.

    Coring, tolerances?

One thing I'll say that has nothing to do with cue building, but just epoxy in general (which I DO know a little about), WEST straight out of the can is a laminating epoxy. It's designed to do laminations and fiberglass. It's not a structural epoxy and has poor gap filling properties. Structural...

    SPAM every month from uknowwho!

It's good to send an acknowledgement that the order has been received. When I get an order, I usually type a thank you by hand. If you can't because of volume, then just something saying that you got the order and are processing it is appropriate even if it's automated. Like you, I don't like...

    Coring, tolerances?

I happen to build guitars, and my experience has been that if the wood wants to move, it's a gonna move...and if you constrain it, maybe just crack. Not sure how that applies to cues, other than agree with KJ that Big Leaf maple (i.e. soft maple) has the best figure but never really stops...
