What Unknown, or Little Know Cuemakers in 10 years will be the NEXT

Bruce, I have to say Skip Weston. His point/veneer work is just incredible! I've played with just about all the big guns cues and his play as good or better than anyones. Admittedly, I tend to lean toward "old school" players style cues which I think he executes better than anyone. Try...

    Would You Buy Cues?

I think so Fred. I started buying/trading cues in 1988 long prior to discovering some of these websites. Personally, believe that these forums have enabled some of the lesser known cuemakers to get their work out on the street outside of their own regional areas.

That is a sweet looking cue! Don't worry Zeeder, I'm here for you. We can kick this thing together!

    classic cue design

I'm having Skip Weston build me a cocobolo cue. The forearm is cocobolo points into curly maple with four veneers, maple, cocobolo, maple, cocobolo, inside to outside. White 3/8 X 10 Joint with maple stitch rings, white, short delrin butt plate with another stitch ring just above. A simple...

    More Excitement!

Man, I hope so! I just don't have any idea how much or little relative humidity that Skip needs to do finish work. I'm sure that he knows better than we do. Realistically, I'd rather wait a while and have a great finish job than have him rush things and have to refinish though.

    More Excitement!

You're killing me man! Skip sent me some pics of mine a couple of weeks ago but he had been unable to spray the finish on it because it was too humid. Hope it dries out in Jersey soon!

    Tips, Tips, and Tips Revisited

I had a Chandivert Rocky on an Omega DPK sneaky pete (please don't ask, I kick myself on a daily basis) and it was the hardest friggin tip I've ever seen! Practically had to use an angle grinder to shape it. The Champions were a little softer than I care for. I like Triangles, wet them and...

    joint protectors

Good post Mike. I use joint protectors and always have on all my cues whether "high dollar" or not. I feel that they are a definite must have if you want to take good care of a cue. I don't worry about fancy, although in the case of a Gina, high dollar Scruggs or a Barry Szamboti, I might pop...

    Ron Thomas Cases...

The last time that I talked to Ron he said he was working on a website, but I have not seen anything as of yet.

Who are the top five players in your state?

I thought that Gilbert Martinez moved to Las Vegas? There's so much talent in Texas it's a tough list to make.

    Ron Thomas Cases...

Ron's cases are as good as anyones! He fully lines his cases with a very heavy felt material. He makes three different designs for his tops, one with a latch, one with a snap usually on the side and a friction fit lid that really fits tight and seals virtually airtight. His workmanship is...

    Tip pick question.

I have one of those and use it occasionally. I just roll it across the tip with a little bit of pressure, rotating the shaft between rolls to ensure even coverage. Normally to scuff a tip that is already shaped the way I want it I use these little abrasive pads about two inches square that...

    Vintage Cue Cases

That's what I thought when I posted earlier on Dennis' cases, and that is the same number that I have for him. Thanks Tate!

    Vintage Cue Cases

No, the one that I bought was a "Longhorn" case, don't think that they are made anymore. It was really nice, natural colored, very heavy gauge leather with western tooling all over it. The interior was lined in sheepskin. Bought it for $50 at a pool hall in San Angelo called "Giz and Hums"...

    Vintage Cue Cases

JH - Actually I think that Fox Hollow Leather Crafts is Dennis' company. Also, I think that Jay Flowers did actually make some simple envelope cases like the one shown. I bought one like that in San Angelo Texas many years ago that had beautiful tooling all over it. It was made by a company...

    Tim Scruggs?

Well, I am sorry that your cue took it so badly. I've met Tim on several occasions and like him both as a person and a cuemaker. I was just asking if anyone had heard how his operation went. Did not mean to intimate that he should be announcing his health issues to anyone.

    Tim Scruggs?

Any word on how Tim Scruggs is doing after his operation? Hope he's doing OK. Blud, have you heard anything?
