    Brief Survey - RESULTS

Yeah, it's a bit shit that there are no options for anything below 18oz. My cue is 17.5oz and it's perfect for me.

    Cue making video

This is fascinating. Never knew how intricate American pool manufacturing is. For a comparison, here's one on snooker and English pool cues:

    Open / Closed Bridge Hybrid?

I don't think I've ever consistently played with a closed bridge. Kind of uncomfortable with the curled index finger and the taper of an English pool cue, anyway. Plus, my line of sight is always hampered by my index finger. The only time I'd use one is when I'm breaking from the head rail...

    Pro player question

I've always assumed they're visualising the tangent line from the very rear of the object ball to the pocket or the general position they're looking to play to.

    Billiards on a snooker table?

I used to watch a bit of billiards when I got bored of snooker and pool for the day. Fascinating game. And the fact that it can basically be played on any pool table to a smaller degree means you don't have to buy a snooker table to play. A fun fact is that a snooker table's baulk line has no...

    Black Ball ?

Not if you hit your own ball first and pot both balls. It's known as a "skillshot" in blackball rules, and it only applies to this ruleset. If it were WEPF world rules, it would be a foul.

    Blackball

I just wish there was more of an active interest in English pool on the main forum. The English pool category is basically dead and the majority of posts I see are to do with American pool. It's the same on Reddit - hardly any blackball discussion.

Not The Fanciest Cue In The World, But Is It The Rarest?

What does a "merry widow" style of cue mean? I don't know a whole lot about American pool cues, but I have heard of the term a few times.

all snooker cues are butterfly design, reason?

Hand spliced cues (the cues with the "butterfly" splicing) have the ash or maple shaft running the entire length of the cue, which some players say results in better feedback when hitting a cue ball. The four pieces of butt timber are glued it around and planed by hand. This results in the...

Worst ball skid video, and GO!

I was about to comment on Kyren's kick about 0:30 in, until I saw Luca Brecel's one at 4:00. Jesus, the way the red went off to the right as we're looking...

    Black Ball ?

If fouls lose a ball, does the incoming player also have two visits like in regular blackball, or is it only the one shot?

How common are break cues amongst avid amateur players in the US?

Here in Ireland, I have never seen anyone carry a dedicated break cue for pool. I'd say the vast majority of players here break off with their playing cue, or else grab a rack cue with the thickest tip they can find. Some players care about a finessed cut break than having to drive the cue ball...

    Snooker Cue Selection Question

Thai cues are meant to be quality. Master and Maximus cues are also fantastic, from what I hear. Odd that the page says they're one-piece cues, but the image shows 3/4 joints...

    Snooker Cue Selection Question

Currently using a Woods as my snooker cue. I'm not really a fan of the lacquer on their cues, but I doubt you'll be able to find a better starter set than them.

    Snooker Cue Selection Question

So has Kyren Wilson. Not sure how many others have made a swap.

    Snooker Cue Selection Question

I'd stick with a snooker cue for snooker and an American pool cue for American pool. I have dedicated cues for both English pool and snooker, but I used to use a snooker cue for the former. I now only use my snooker cue for its intended use, and picked up a custom Peradon for pool. Does the...

If you have more than one playing cue, do you alternate? or how do you choose.

If I'm going to a snooker hall and there are pool tables available, I'll stick my pool cue and my snooker cue in the same case. The only problem is that it's a Halo case with only two slots, so I have to carry my extensions, chalk and tip equipment in a separate bag.

    I sympathize with Billy Thorpe

I understand his frustration behind poor racking, but, Jesus... Physically attacking an opponent and threatening everyone else in the room over a money match rack is fucking disgusting behaviour. Utter scumbag.

    Billy Thorpe gone wild!

0:55. Threatening to attack anyone else in the room... What a fucking cunt.

    Gemstones inlaid in pool cues

Yeah, I don't like them, either. Any inlays, really. I find them gaudy and unappealing.
