English pool: Chris Melling, Jordan Shepherd or Mick Hill. Probably Scott Gillespie, too.

Pool cue components or styles that you are not a fan of.

Inlays and rings. Maybe it's because I'm used to the style and aesthetics of snooker/English pool cues, but I don't see the appeal of them on American pool cues. They're gaudy and unappealing - especially the turquoise or mother-of-pearl ones. As far as decorative splicing goes, I hate thuya burr.

How many of you steal chalk from the pool hall?

The only chalk used in my pub league is green Triangle, which I've had enough of already. I'll stick with my Taom Soft.

    Anybody use an ash shaft?

I was actually referring to my English pool cue. Though, yes, all my snooker cues are also ash. But yeah, I can see that OP was referring to American pool cues. Are ash shafts even available for those types of cues? I've never even heard of them being used.

    Anybody use an ash shaft?

All I use is ash. The only other wood I own for any cue sport is maple for my break cue.

how are ya'll doing in league ?

Currently playing in my local GAA club's pub league for our winter fixture. We've since transitioned from bog-standard pub rules to something very close to WPA blackball rules. But I'm playing like shite. Only won two matches so far out of the five I've played. Hoping I do better in the summer...

what tips hold taom chalk well?

I was miscueing far too often with the V10 on the laminated tip I had on my playing cue. I've since gone back to my green 2.0, but I'd like to give Taom Soft a shot, since it's apparently a little pastier.

My current playing cue that I received nearly two years ago.

    Change my mind. Elkmaster

I've always stuck with ash. No idea what OP's on about with that "horrible hit" stuff. My Jason Owen is an absolute dream to cue with. I'll never go back to a jointed cue, either. The aesthetics of the shorter splicing and the balance of a one-piece are incredible. For tips, I haven't used an...

    I Wish Tip Makers Would...

I've never seen or heard of any decent player using screw-on tips. Certainly not any professional, anyway, to my knowledge.

    Tip talk

I have two Mike Wooldridge SuperTips, with one ready to go on my English pool cue once my G3 gives out. Really excited to give them a go. I know a lot of people really like them.

    English pool, WPA blackball rules.

One pice v two piece cues

I've used my friends' half-jointed cues in the occasional frame or two. I'm not too familiar with American pool cues, so I've forgotten what brand it was, but they hit better and felt far nicer than any rack cue I've used in the hall. Conversely, any half-jointed English pool cue I've used has...

    2024 World Snooker Championship (Apr 20th - May 6th)

Brendan Moore for me. Though, it's a shame he's retired from refereeing.

    Ultimate Pool Louisiana Open

I never understood why this carried over to international rules. If they're trying to Americanise English pool with the ruleset, why does the touching ball rule exist when it never did in any other American pool ruleset? Really weird.

What tip you do you play with?

Century G3. Have a Mike Wooldridge SuperTip ready to go once the G3 gives out.

    Brunswick Blue Diamond tips

I recently picked up some Mike Wooldridge SuperTips. I stuck a calfskin ADR147 on my backup playing cue the other night and was surprised to find how hard the tip was. I even had trouble trimming it down with a blade. I think once the Century G3 on my main cue goes, I'll be sticking a SuperTip...

Why different shaft diameters for different games?

Could it be the taper of the cues? Chinese eight-ball cues are essentially thicker-tipped snooker cues that may be a little heavier, but most have conical tapers. I know Gareth Potts' own brand of cue has an 11.5mm tip, which is the widest I've seen. As a rule, the thinner the tip in relation...
