Pool Room Customers That Return Tray of Pool Balls in Sequence - Why?

It makes it easier for the house to check quickly whether it's the original set of balls and they haven't become mixed up with those at another table (there are actually people who go to pool rooms who would never notice if they had two 2s and no 3). It's also a good way to give the balls out in...

is it dangerous to put my case inside of the checked-in luggage?

Just check your cue. Handlers at airports don't steal pool cues. Put it in your case diagonally in a bag, or put the cues themselves in your case and carry the case (or a cheap soft substitute) in your cabin baggage. Your cue is unlikely to warp (and if it's carbon then it just won't) and nobody...

    9 Ball Tournament Rules?

I've played "no golden break", which means that the 9 ball is spotted is it goes into any pocket off the break. I think this is a good rule only in short race handicapped tournaments. Also you had to call the 9 or it doesn't count. In this situation you carried on if you made another ball but...

    2023 World Snooker Championship / April 15th - May 1st

I often run into a very similar problem as him when I break and the table is ripe for a "maximum". I run out of position on one of the penultimate two balls and then miss one of them or the eight ball 🤣🤣🤣

    2023 World Snooker Championship / April 15th - May 1st

Pretty good (counter) response though from his opponent. Might not get in his head right now but could do later if he runs bad - worth a shot.

    2023 World Snooker Championship / April 15th - May 1st

Wow! I read that he had two 146s - but back to back? Two total clearances at the top end of the table with only one pink in the cold round of the World Championship - ridiculously good.

    Efren Reyes Cup

I remember the "Kings' Cup" (direct translation of Reyes to English) being Asia vs Rest of the World. This article calls it Asia vs the West: https://poolmag.com/west-wins-pools-kings-cup-in-thriller-finale/

    Gorst returns to international play

I think at the time it made all kinds of sense for Parica to represent his own country. For the others, although they have lived in the USA for long periods of time, there is no real advantage for them to become US citizens (although some might have done so ??? - because an extra passport is...

Premier League Pool (PLP) 6-13 March2023, Leicester- Earl makes his debut !

Agree, Alex knows how to grind his way through a tournament. I think Melling also has a chance, albeit an outside one, of making it. He splits his time between 9 ball and English pool which gives him more opportunities to get in the money but makes it harder to get in the zone and be consistent...

Push Out Order in Scotch Doubles?

Yes in a 2 player game with players A and B. But when players A, B, C and D are involved it becomes a bit different, hence the question..

Judd Trump will be at World Championship in Poland, February 1-5, 2023

I hope Trump takes up the offer. It's great to see snooker players dabbling in 9 ball and also, as we have seen with Ultimate Pool, English 8 ball. Cue sports supporting each other can't be a bad thing. I'd go as far as giving a wild card spot to a carom and a pyramid player. The best would be...

    Elise Foster Ultimate Pool

There is a ton of talent there. The last thing you might want, actually the first thing we all want, is seeing them playing the same pool that the world plays. Any kind of English pool, or "blackball" is a missed opportunity.

Modern Era Tournament Slow Play - (a rant)

Hmmm, I think Russians are at least as, maybe more, likely to have their own mind than most of us. He's a pool player.

Modern Era Tournament Slow Play - (a rant)

Yes, playing outside your comfort zone does your game no harm. Calling a shot ahead is another good one. But these are good training tools with friends for low or no stakes - they force good play but at the same time take the pressure off. No place for them in competitive matches as they lead to...

Modern Era Tournament Slow Play - (a rant)

But isn't this pretty much the definition of women who are successful in a man's world?

Modern Era Tournament Slow Play - (a rant)

No, they were rare just like they are now. That "rareness" makes them exciting at the time and memorable in the future.

Modern Era Tournament Slow Play - (a rant)

Yes there is a gulf between the very best and the merely exceptionally good. The guy down your local pool hall who "never misses" would be in bits if he somehow was freerolled into the last 16 of a major professional pool tournament. The clock pressure would get to him even if he is used to...

Modern Era Tournament Slow Play - (a rant)

I agree with much of the sentiment of the OP - players will usually play fast enough anyway but there are big shots where "thinking" is beneficial. Having said that the overall standard of play at the top level is leaps and bounds ahead of the old days. 1 minute or so (normal time plus...

"Hit the pro side of the pocket" myth.

Interesting discussion. I always thought ,"if you are going to miss it, miss it on the pro side" meant you hit the ball down/close to the rail with "pocket speed" so that it is more likely to go in if you "miss" the center of the pocket and it hits the rail first.

    Nineball Asian Tour

It was a South East Asian tour, sponsored initially by San Miguel and later by Guinness. Imho it was the best tour at the time. With the 200k final tournment (Asia/Asian Open?) we might see some non-Asian players entering some other events in the lead up to the main event.
