    2023 World Pool Championship

Agree, Matchroom sticking 10k on top to make first prize 70k would be a statement if nothing else. Don't understand why they haven't sent a signal that they are heading to 100k and more, but having said that I'm all over it. Roll on the WPC!

    2023 World Pool Championship

If Russia attacks Poland then Nato, EU, USA and UK will as one go in hard and bomb the hell out of Moscow. Neither of these things will happen. The World Pool Championship will go smoothly.

    Mosconi cup

I'm with you at the start - I'm European and cheer on my team but really don't care who wins if the action is good. I enjoyed the pool and for me this was the most exciting Mosconi Cup in recent memory.

    Mosconi cup

Earl adds no value to the modern game. Terrible pick (by USA and/or Matchroom).

Earl on time clocks and extensions

9 Ball was at its peak (commmercially) in the 00s the last time Matchroom had the World Championship - 100k for the winner and no shot clocks. It's on the up again now, with shot clocks. I don't see any clear evidence for either preference but suspect that not many viewers would be lost once in...

WEPF to phase out own ruleset in favour of international rules for English pool

Let's be fair here. The WEPF is doing exactly this by adopting a sensible ruleset. International (previously called Supreme) rules brought players together from World Rules and Blackball (and also Melling, Boyes, Appleton and Shaw) together to actually play against each other in the same...

Easy 8B puzzle! ( taken from a real match )

Hmm, just run out and the key ball is the 4 or 6 to get position on the 8 into the long corner. No brainer. The other way (break out the 8 early) is maybe preferable if the table is particularly fast or slow.

WEPF to phase out own ruleset in favour of international rules for English pool

Even in pubs where they have agreed to play the new new new new new rules (with BIH) there will still be fellas reminding their opponent it's "only one shot on the black mate".

WEPF to phase out own ruleset in favour of international rules for English pool

Great move in my opinion. World Rules were a horrendous attempt to fix the problems that arose with two visits (rather than BIH) after a foul. Blackball was a much better attempt at bringing the ruleset closer to the original intentions of the game. International Rules is by far the best and a...

    Wrong Ball

    No but yes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Wrong Ball

He was getting up out of his chair as the shot was being played. That's a sound in my book.

    Wrong Ball

Correct. But the opponent is, and can.

    Wrong Ball

If it were purely a financial decision, he would have told his opponent he was playing the wrong ball rather than jumping out of his seat before the shot was finished or even played. The blow up on social media and even TV (this is Matchroom) would have been mental with the greatest player of...

    Wrong Ball

I read somewhere today that this happened to Chris Melling once. He picked the cue ball up and gave his opponent BIH. This was Chris being honest (he could have played the correct ball as if nothing had happened) as he knew 100% that he would have played the wrong ball if the spectator hadn't...

Poll: Snooker penalty values: variable or fixed

Variable. When a frame is close but one player needs one or more snookers to win, the increasing value of the colours forces the player to decide whether to go for snookers early, or pot the smaller colours and go for more valuable snookers later on. Rarely seen on TV where the pros are running...

don't ban jump cues, ban phenolic tips- ?

Aye, the spectators like it. I think they like kicking too but you rarely, if ever, hear anyone complaining about kicking cues. Maybe cos there ain't none.

Question: Could you be awarded multiple free shots in blackball?

Yes, I agree that something akin to the free ball rule would be better than the miss rule in snooker.

Question: Could you be awarded multiple free shots in blackball?

The free ball nonsense is a daft rule designed to overcome deficiencies in the two shots rule in English pool. "International Pool Rules" have moved back to ball in hand. They will soon replace "World Rules" and "Blackball" will be left behind.
