8-Ball: Winner Break or Alternating Break?

Bit of a long quiz so I'll answer here: 8 Ball tournaments: Alternate Break Gambling: let the gamblers decide Race length: clearly there are more situations in longer races where winner breaks might be appropriate and not so many in shorter races. Any arguments where someone "doesn't have the...

    WNT Player Break

I went for a nature break after my last post. Lucky we are not playing poster posts next post.

    WNT Player Break

Yep, and it's now a full on pro tour. "Timeout" may well be the way to go. I do think, however, that most of the players on the tour just roll with it.

Agree, but many of those Filipinos will be "foreign workers" with one day off a week (I'm guessing either Friday or Saturday) rather than "expats" on big contracts. I think MR needs to find a way of filling some of the "cheapseats" and accommodating those who are happy to pay through the nose...

    WNT Player Break

It's pretty straightforward in an alternate break format - you go when it's your turn or it's a one rack penalty should be a standard tournament rule. Winner breaks I can see both sides - maybe allow one "timeout" per hour or per x number of racks? Either way, it should imo be transparent and...

Then you would be the outlier of all outliers. Most players, in any sport, who are really really really good never win anything. They also never sound off about it.

    2024 World Pool Championship

🤔 nonsense of the complete and utter level. Heyball (and snooker) are much harder than American pool but if it were that easy they would be already turning up in droves and hitting the regulars out of the park. Dang has proven, in a very short window of time, that he has what it takes to win an...

What would you do? Custom 24 month wait or instant Gratification?

If I were in that same exact situation I would save up for a few years more and buy a $50000 cue and say hey baby look at my $50000 cue. In all seriousness, I'd just buy a solid cue (you can get one for $20) and play with it 'til my bad boy arrives.

    Best and worst commentator??

Regarding the terms pot and pocket used as verbs, here is rule 7 from the official rules of snooker: 7. Potting and Pocketing A pot is when an object ball, after contact with another ball and without any infringement of these Rules, enters a pocket. Causing a ball to be potted is known as...

    Best and worst commentator??

Yes, it 100% has nothing to do with snooker. It's likely a term that one promoter or tournament organizer used once and then it stuck because its an appropriate term for sinking the yellow money ball legally on the break. It's possible that it was coined by a snooker commentator that happened to...

    Best and worst commentator??

"Pot" is a more natural form of verbing (using a noun as a verb) than "pocket". Hence, when the global English speaking pool community comes together "pot" will eventually become the default term everywhere. Likewise rail (because that's what it actually is) is slowly sidelining (no pun intended...

    Oscar barking at Karl Boyes

Not gonna happen. Karl doesn't "not play anymore" but he has another career now and is in no position to put the time in. More than good enough to have a crack at, and a chance in, a tournament but I think that's your lot.

None of them will take that challenge because they are huge underdogs. Gareth Potts issued a similar challenge a few years ago and nobody accepted. There is absolutely no way anyone (other than a top Chinese Heyball pro, but why would they bother, or Gareth Potts) would accept a challenge like...

    UK Too Slow

Said it before and I'll say it again. The main reason elite players "play slow" when there is no shot clock is that they actually need time to work out which is the optimal shot for them at that particular time for that particular non-routine shot. Their opponents don't complain. Folk on the...

Are Top Level Pool Players Better Today?

Yes of course they are better today than they were in the past. This is obvious to anyone who watches the top players play pool.

WNT Nineball Ranking Event : Scottish Open (1-5 May)

Boyes isn't quite "retired". He was playing English pool occasionally in recent years - he even won a tournament (I think it might have been an Ultimate Pool event). If you are playing any cue sport at an elite level then you are "in stroke". So while he has fallen away, he's not that far behind.
