Outside Pro Players in Billiard Magazines... Who on AZBilliards has articles in Local Newspapers or Local Magazine Written about Them??

When you said "men's magazine," my first thought was if you meant the kind that everybody claims to read for the articles. ;) Looked at the piece that mentioned you and found it interesting that Tom Wirth was the underdog who went for $25 in the Calcutta and beat Cliff Joyner in that...

Outside Pro Players in Billiard Magazines... Who on AZBilliards has articles in Local Newspapers or Local Magazine Written about Them??

Ah, the price of celebrity. There was supposed to be a picture of me from a One Pocket tournament in the Billiards Digest piece that wound up not getting published. Probably just as well. Don't want to knock my own action ... such as it is.

Outside Pro Players in Billiard Magazines... Who on AZBilliards has articles in Local Newspapers or Local Magazine Written about Them??

I just learned today that this month's Billiards Digest has an "Untold Stories" article by R. A. "Jake" Dyer about my upcoming pool history book called The Oklahoma Roots of One Pocket. This is the September 2023 issue with David Alcaide on the cover. I haven't read the entire article myself...

DO ANY SNOOKER TABLES HAVE DIAMONDS FOR MARKERS ON THEM?

Hang on to those balls and consult with someone who knows how to care for them if possible. Clay balls from that era are collectible. I would set them aside and avoid using them until you know what they're worth.

DO ANY SNOOKER TABLES HAVE DIAMONDS FOR MARKERS ON THEM?

Is your 1908 table 10' or 12' long? American pool tables at that time were typically 10' long--same as the American snooker tables that were most common in the United States. Carom billiard tables were also 10' long. 8-Ball was a fairly new game in 1908. In competition, the most played game...

Luther Lassiter and Dean Chance Book

Apparently Dean Chance had quite a bit of hustle in him off the baseball field as well! He and another Major League Baseball player, Bo Belinsky, ran the "two friends and a brother" routine sometimes using top-notch pool players for the ringer--including Don Willis! Willis grew up near Chance in...

Luther Lassiter and Dean Chance Book

@Anthony_Beeler, you've really piqued my interest regarding Dean Chance and his connection with pool. Here's a quote from the Wikipedia article about Chance that shows he was a man of many interests that coincided with a lot of Johnston City era hustlers like Lassiter .. .

Luther Lassiter and Dean Chance Book

What classy gentleman both of them must have been! I love seeing personalized notes instead of something generic or simply a signature. Lassiter compliments Chance on his achievement, says he'd like to play pool with him again, and says he appreciates Chance's etiquette. It's obvious there was...

    Who Really Invented One Pocket?

That's very encouraging, thank you for saying so. I've been very pleased with response so far from the pool community.

Careful ... don't blow my cover! I'll never be able to get a game if you do.

    Who Really Invented One Pocket?

I've been mistaken for one more than once. "Rabbi" means "teacher" so in that sense, yes.

    Who Really Invented One Pocket?

Just use your pants pockets. That's what I do. If my keys are in my right front pocket, I must be shooting at the right hole. If not, check the left. Can't find your keys in either pocket? Say "Sorry, I'd like to leave now" and ask your opponent or a sympathetic bystander to call a cab for you...

    Who Really Invented One Pocket?

I'm glad you appreciated it. That's just the first installment. There's four times as much information in the whole book. Lots of exciting new discoveries about One Pocket that haven't been published before. There's an entire section of the book dedicated to Hayden Lingo that covers his pool...

    Who Really Invented One Pocket?

I've written a whole book elaborating on the inventor of One Pocket. You can read the first installment of The Oklahoma Roots of One Pocket on OnePocket.org.

    Who Really Invented One Pocket?

That's the short answer most people agree on, but the whole story gets more complicated and a lot more interesting. Check out the first installment of my book on OnePocket.org. I think you'll enjoy it.

    Who Really Invented One Pocket?

If you read the first installment, there's really good evidence for One Pocket beginning right there in your hometown, Tulsa. I'm not a native Oklahoman myself, but I spent enough time there to really appreciate the heritage of One Pocket that still exists in the game's birthplace. It's like...

    Who Really Invented One Pocket?

I've got a new book coming out called The Oklahoma Roots of One Pocket which tries to answer the question, "Who invented the game of One Pocket?' The book will be published and available for purchase later this summer. In the meantime, you can read part of the book for free at One Pocket.org...

Would the difference be attributable to snooker tables having napped cloth?

    Greenleaf biography (revised first edition)

"Best Game" was as common a stat as "High Run" for 3-Cushion Billiards in newspapers of the time and shows up in Ursitti's history volumes for Billiards. It meant the fewest number of innings taken to reach the final score in a single game. I'd say it has the same meaning for Straight Pool. So a...
