10 best players in the world

Looking at these lists, I wonder: What is considered the prime age of pool players? Clearly some players can remain top pros into their 40s, making pool somewhat similar to golf in that regard. Shane Van Boening, Carlo Biado and David Alcaide attest to that – all three make my top 20 list...

10 best players in the world

Most AZ members would probably agree Filler is the best player in the world. I agree, too. But I would not put him No. 1 in my top 10 based on his performance over the past year. That honor would go to Aloysius Yapp. Here’s my top 10, assuming the Ko brothers will skip most big WNT and WPA...

10 best players in the world

I was not surprised to look at the WPA and WNT rankings and see a big disconnect. It simply reflects the competitive but disjointed nature of pro pool these days. WPA lists Albin Ouschan at No.1. It might have been true four years ago, but he’s not even in my top 10. WNT rankings have their...

EUROPEAN OPEN 2026, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, March 10-15

Much was made by Jeremy Jones about Moritz struggling because of an equipment change. Clearly it's what Neuhausen told him. It's impossible for fans to know how much it really affected him, though. Moritz switched his cue sponsor from Cuetec to Triple Sixty in mid-January. Triple Sixty produces...

I reviewed the final last night to check on something. When Neuhausen was down 7-2 to He, he finally won a game after a safety error by Mario. The score was then 7-3. Neuhausen would then win 10 games in a row (11 straight overall), and a huge reason was his break. Moritz actually broke dry in...

If someone asked me, is Joshua Filler a tidy player, I would say yes. But I never think about him that way. For some time now, I have referred to Neuhausen as a neat and tidy player. Perhaps the most neat and tidy on the circuit. Quite a distinct game he has. Moritz has now won the PLP, Peri...

As you know. Bob, when the pressure is on, that is the whole point of training and fundamentals! (-:

I’ll have to go back and look. But I don’t think Neuhausen did that most of the match. I remember Jeremy Jones at one point talking about how he had picked up his pace.

Virtuoso performance. That’s all there is to say. Mario played great, but he never got a chance at the table after 7-2. Only performance I’ve seen better was when Ko Ping Chung won the U.S. Open. He blanked Yapp, if I recall, and rolled over Gorst 13-6 in the final after falling behind 6-3.

I’ve grown everything possible to be grown on the East Coast. I start all my own seeds indoors except for certain things that don’t like transplanting (carrots, beets). I even grow tomatoes indoors during the winter. My staples each year are tomatoes, peppers, chiles, squash, cukes, carrots...

Just enough time to go grocery shopping, prep dinner, bake bread and plant some stuff for my garden. Can’t sit around and watch pool all day! That was a very tense match. Heck, I am still tense from it!

Not shocked at all given Filler’s uneven performance this week. Moritz is one of my favorite players and a face of the game for the next 10 years. He plays the game the right way and I like how he comports himself. I would like to see him win, but I can’t root against a … panda! May the...

I think Mario is just as hungry, but does he have the stamina? That was a grueling match.

Filler missed a lot of shots he normally wouldn’t and it can’t be all chalked up the nerves. Especially his early misses. But I have contended for a while now that he does not play enough in big Matchroom events. The pressure is unlike any other. He’s only won one Matchroom major since the...

Up 8-6, Mario made a huge boo-boo not going for a safety on the 2 ball. Filler let him off the hook, but Mario gave the table back. 8-7. The corner pockets seem a lot tighter today than they played earlier in the week.

Soufi hasn’t really improve tactically since his surprise appearance at the WPC final several years ago. Sevastyanov didn’t lose to He due to lack of tactics. Mario just controlled the table in that match. I think Arseni is a more intelligent player who learns from his mistakes. His tactical...

Filler looking like Clark Kent, not Superman. Mario has been given some Kryptonite. Can he put it to good use?

Some WNT tidbits: *The European Open will return to Sarajevo next year. The crowds this weekend have been pretty good. Much better than last year. *Frazer admitted the Mosconi Cup is in bad shape because of how uncompetitive it is. Hence all the new U.S. events. Trying to give more players a...

Matchroom just switched to CPBA cloth. Maybe Filler hasn’t played on that cloth much. Perhaps it’s causing him trouble. Whatever the case, he has missed a bunch of shots. Mario has not taken sufficient advantage and I think it’s going to cost him.

You only named the game’s very best! Kaci I’d put behind those players, but he’s come a long way. He had too.
