EUROPEAN OPEN 2026, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, March 10-15

Looks like the top seeded players who got a bye only have to win one match to get to the 128-player knockout stage. So far only one seeded player who got a bye has lost - Francisco Candela (754 Fargo). He lost 9-7 to Haris Trtovac (Fargo 709), and was sent to the loser's side.

Another contributor to the weak 2026 European Open field were the EPBF European championships sponsored by Predator. Eight-ball, 9-ball and other events took place in Turkey from Feb. 28 to March 10. The prize money in these events is not big. Less than $60,000 total prize fund for each men's...

There are, to me, a surprising number of European players, mostly Eastern Europeans, with 700 Fargoes or better in the event. I expect a few notable upsets.

The only player whose name I knew who did not get a first-round bye was Quinten Pongers, older brother of the more talented Yannick Pongers. Fargo 744, same as Childress. I was starting to feel bad for him ... until I noticed he lost his first-round match to Estonian Revo Maimre (Fargo 660)...

EUROPEAN OPEN 2026, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, March 10-15

New format this year for all the 256-player WNT Open events (European, UK, U.S., Florida and Hanoi opens). Single-elimination round begins at 128 instead of 64 as in the past. A Matchroom event manager said the Philippines Open taught them that earlier single elimination got rid of some "dead"...

Come now, Jay, life is never normal. You've been around long enough to know that! We had a brief "holiday from history" after the USSR imploded, to use the words of a famous political pundit. But the world is always chaotic. I think of my father when I hear people complain about the state of...

    Favorite/easiest diamond banking systems.

If your approach works for you, great. Different folks ... For my part, I benefited from learning the principles of banking and learning a numbering system. It was pretty easy. Now I am at the point where I instinctively know by feel how the numbers add up. The real question is what approach...

EUROPEAN OPEN 2026, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, March 10-15

We don’t call every WNT event a major. Neither does Matchroom. Matchroom has lots of events. Some it calls majors, or Gold events. Others are deemed ranking or Silver or Bronze events. The Pattaya Open fit into that category. So did the Caraboa in February, or the upcoming Diamond Expo event in...

    Favorite/easiest diamond banking systems.

Banking is art and science. It doesn’t just have to be systems or feel. It’s both. The ‘system’ I learned from Tor Lowry also taught me the principles or science of banking. DrDave is also very helpful in the regard. Going this route speeds up the learning process. Learning just by feel takes...

    Favorite/easiest diamond banking systems.

This is what I do. I set up a wide variety of bank shots, sticker them, then shoot at different speeds, different spots on the cue ball, and with different spins. Thats how you figure out and remember the various effects.

I figure that is why Yapp is not attending. First big major (WPC or event with 256-player field) that I think he has missed since 2022.

    Favorite/easiest diamond banking systems.

It's not easy. I can visualize lots of banks now, even a lot of kicks, because I practice them. But learning a diamond system first taught me how to regularly succeed in making banks and kicks. It was like giving me a alphabet to make words. Or a solid foundation to build a banking and kicking...

I created a spreadsheet earlier this year of the results of all WNT major events for future reference. I only include winner, runnerups, semifinalsts and quarterfinalists for each tournament. No match scores, either. Wanted something quick and simple to update. The WNT officially began in...

    Favorite/easiest diamond banking systems.

I played around with this last weekend. I had some success, but not enough to persuade me to use it. I was planning to experiment a bit more since I have never seen this system until watching the video. He is on a 7-foot Diamond. A 9-foot GC plays differently when I tested this system on it.

Yes and no. I would assume some players booked their flight awhile ago, when trips were cheaper. Yapp posted about the European Open three weeks ago and it appeared he would attend. Granted, WNT didn't officially announce the event until Jan. 29, which was a bit late. I don't know if players...

    Favorite/easiest diamond banking systems.

There are basically only two kinds of systems. Visual ones and numbering/diamond ones. These are mainly systems for dead banks or mild cut angles at medium speed. I've mainly used two visual systems that require parallel shifting. No numbers involved. My preferred system - as a base...

If I am not mistaken, Teutcher’s Fargo just recently surpassed 800. He’s had some high finishes the past two years, mostly in WPA events. Younger players who’ve improved quite a bit in the past year or two include Jonas Souto, Yannick Pongers, Arseni Sevastyanov, Emil Gangflot and Georgi...
