    10 Ball Rules History

I believe Predator allows early 10s except when it’s a WPA world championship. For those events they have to use WPA last ball rules. This can be confusing to fans and players. As an aside, the number of pro players that go to tournaments and don’t read the rules is astonishing to me.

    10 Ball Rules History

I’m not certain of this. A guy in my pool hall has one and gets tight racks in 8b. I tried it and couldn’t get a good rack. It could be that it’s just a learned thing - my hands “know” how to get a good rack with a triangle and don’t know it with that thing. So if I were racking for the pros...

    10 Ball Rules History

Based on Bob’s response above, 10 on the break was a win up until January 2009. To me if you are playing 10b with 9b rules, then 10 on the break should count (assuming you have proper racking involved). In many local rack your own 9b events in my area 9 on the break spots to avoid rack...

    10 Ball Rules History

Thanks, Bob. Do you recall the thinking on why 10b last was introduced?

    9-Ball needs to be fixed

Yeah, 5 years earlier. This was 2018. His accident was in July 2023.

    10 Ball Rules History

So the rules went from 9b rules to call shot and 10b last in 2008? Interesting. I assumed it was after that because you didn’t include a 10b last vs early 10b in your list of distinctions. At least in my experience that’s the biggest rule disparity I see in tournaments and (non-Filipino) action...

    10 Ball Rules History

In the thread on “fixing” 9b, there is some discussion on 10b, call shot and also 10 ball last. Often times people think 10b must be a call shot game, as if that was always the game. Of course the Filipinos play 10b just like 9b with an extra ball, which I recalled was the original version...

Wasn’t Little Ko vs Yapp 11-0 exactly that?

    Jump stick rule change??

I agree that this is a thing. But either these players will eventually learn how to kick or they will hit a wall when they start playing people who play better safeties.

    9-Ball needs to be fixed

I agree that the finals should be best of 5 sets, but count me in the camp that doesn’t like sets to begin with. It hasn’t grown on me.

    9-Ball needs to be fixed

20 second? I think that’s way too short. I actually think Pat Fleming had it right with his 40 second clock.

    9-Ball needs to be fixed

Very helpful. Do you have stats for the later stages of the events? I’m thinking that some of early TV table matches would include some less than elite players. Plus by the last 16, say, the players would have a feel for the tables.

Anyone Use A Rhino Carbon Fiber Shaft?

My only issue with Dr Dave’s video is that he deliberately ignores hit, sound and feel. He does this on purpose because those are irrelevant to him. But those subjective things do matter to most players. So what do you think on them?

    Jump stick rule change??

40 inches would be jump cue minimum. Assuming you mean 58 inches. Presumably any rule would be like Turning Stone or Derby (pre WNT changes). As I mentioned above, at TS (jump with breaker or shooting cue) Fedor took all the weights out of his breaker and jumped fine. Old DCC rules were...

    Jump stick rule change??

Several thoughts: 1. Banning jump cues will never happen, for the reasons discussed. 2. If you did ban them, guys like Fedor will still have an advantage. Fedor played Turning Stone one year (can jump with break cue only) and he took all the weight out of his breaker, still broke great and...

    9-Ball needs to be fixed

The first question to me is “broken to who?” A bunch of old former top level players isn’t the market WNT is going for. Nor is it the obsessed amateur players who populate AZ. We are going to watch, broken or not. What do the average fans want? Probably not every match being 9-0 break and run...

At what would you question “non obvious” call pocketing?

For some reason this discussion reminds me of the chorus of this song from my youth.

Fun video of 2 snooker pros playing Chinese 8 ball

Williams has played a bit more Heyball than he lets on. He had a good run at the 2024 Masters. Hendry never gave Heyball any attention, despite being paid to go over there and play in the early days.

At what would you question “non obvious” call pocketing?

Yeah, it took me a few more posts from him to understand what he was really asking. I thought he was asking if you have to call the intended ball and pocket on a combo or whether those can be obvious, so I tried to answer that question. I later realized he was asking if you need to say “combo”...
