What Is Up With Master Chalk?

It is interesting to watch the psychology of counterfeiting. If you counterfeit a really cheap product, you have to distribute too much to make a profit, and people look too closely and often register expensive products. When I was assigned in Korea, we found that the North Koreans flooded the...

Thinking about switching to a leather wrap

It sounds like you are wanting to do this yourself. If so, I would highly recommend that you go to cuesmith.com and order a couple of leather practice blanks. These are seconds, have holes, discoloration, sales returns or other flaws, but they only sell for $4 each. Well worth screwing one of...

Cloth selection - Price vs Quality - Best option - Opinion wantedd

I’m not the person in a location to ask about high humidity and how it affects play. Our area, high altitude southwest Colorado, ranges from low humidity in the summer to very low humidity in the winter. We typically run the air conditioning for a few hours each year just to make sure it still...

Andy is out of Taiwan, right? That is a whole different quality and manufacturing ethos than China.

Cloth selection - Price vs Quality - Best option - Opinion wantedd

Agree that you don’t want to do that yourself. I have a Brunswick Centennial that is manufactured with a teflon coating and plays with no problem, and the general opinion of the teflon coated Championship cloths is pretty good.

Cloth selection - Price vs Quality - Best option - Opinion wantedd

Good point from Bob, as always. Perhaps one of the most common good cloths used in pool halls is the Championship Mercury Ultra. Several users have made a good case that the Valley Teflon is the same thing with a teflon coating for stain resistance, and is only a few bucks more. Both are less...

Cloth selection - Price vs Quality - Best option - Opinion wantedd

I just installed Championship Tour Edition for our Senior Center. Plays great, moderately fast, installation was easy since it has a higher nylon content and stretched really easily. When looking at the options we rejected your number 5, since it seemed to be neither here nor there, and had a...

    Buyer / Seller transaction report

Bought a set of Aramith tournament balls from Masster. He runs a small pool operation in a beautiful part of coastal Croatia, and periodically replaces the balls. Very personable, easy to deal with, balls were in excellent condition and very reasonably priced. Shipping took a couple weeks...

    Simonis Apple Green

Why not go with a lower temperature color LED? I’ve got nearly 200 with almost all in the 2700 to 3000 K range, never a complaint from guests or relatives who say they are sensitive to them.

    When to replace cloth

Saw this in a major way the other day. I was checking out the new cloth I installed as a favor for the Senior Center. Put draw on the ball as I would normally do on my home table, and the ball came back at me like a shot. I hadn’t realized how much backspin I was putting on the ball to...

    Starrett 8 or 12

I learned on one job with a flexible floor to always stand perpendicular to the level so that my weight has minimal effect on the readings.

I think everyone has also convinced me that brush on contact cement is the safest option. Already have some as well.

    Table Cloth Glue

Actually, this is new cloth, and I should have plenty of extra since Championship prepackages 9 ft to use on an oversized 8. Cheaper to do that than try to find a supplier who would custom cut. The nearest real pool shop to me is nearly a four hour drive, so I live on mail order here. I like...

    My experience with Schmelke

You specified and are worried about the butt cap? Wow. They probably got a box of five thousand of them from People’s Rubber Product Factory Number 2 in Shanghai, and that is what you’ll get as well. I have a Joss that plays really well with a Viking butt cap because I didn’t want to order...

tiger emerald green vs Pechauer Jade

I remember a few weeks back on the periodic "What is the Best Tip" thread someone was pushing the Crical tips that sell on Amazon and eBay for about 5 for $25. I remember being mildly ridiculed when I questioned someone's assessment of "chromatic integrity" being a critical aspect of the game...

    Starrett 8 or 12

The more sensitive levels are, of course, more expensive also, with everything else being equal. I have an EDA 61 that is 10 times the resolution of the 98. Much too sensitive for pool table leveling. I’ve found its best use with pool tables is to show the owner how flexible a floor is since...

    Starrett 8 or 12

Good advice from Fat Tony. For a long level, I use a Home Depot quality generic with a machinists level on top. I’ve found that if you get one that is too accurate, you spend too much time chasing your tail, and it doesn’t appreciably improve anything. The Moore and Wrights that I use are 0.3...

    Starrett 8 or 12

Don't limit yourself to Starrett. I know this may sound like sacrilege since Starrett has a religious following, but I am extremely happy with the made in England Moore and Wright ELM model, which has a 300 mm base, almost always sells with a case, and is very easy to read and calibrate.. Also...

    Table Cloth Glue

I would like to lean on the experts opinions about glue. Usage will be for a small piece of cloth on the slate on the inside of pockets, just so that when the main cloth is cut and extended into the pocket it covers all the slate and looks a little better. Is the 3M 77 spray the best stuff out...
