I think you are underestimating the chalk life. I'm on about 6 months with a piece of Taom and have probably used less than 10% of the chalk mass, that with playing a practicing daily.

Not surprised. It isn't terribly expensive, and is denser, higher crush resistance, and all around stronger than maple. Love the way a nice piece of it looks too.

True, but not the point. I use Taom because it saves me time and money not having to clean up the mess from some of these messy, dusty chalks. Over a year, that may be a few hours of finding the vacuum, the nozzles, carting it up the stairs and wearing out my cloth by vacuuming it. Oh, and...
