    A.E Schmidt tables

I learned straight pool on a Schmidt ball-return table that looked BTW, a lot like the table they used in the ‘Hustler’ movie. Has anyone ever been able to positively ID the brand at Ames?

    Rail break shots

I agree. Wide range of options if speed control is off (especially if the 8 passes).

Shark Move Part 58 - Verbal Concession

It’s a concession when HE rakes the balls. Otherwise, I’m shooting.

    ‘The Hustler’

While Willie was ‘technical advisor’, he obviously had no control over the script: In the initial session, after Eddie tells Charlie “I’m going to take him”, he asks Fats “you miss?, and then “you don’t leave much when you miss”. Then Fats replies “that’s what the game’s all about”. Which...

FOULS IN POOL ... Everything You Need to Know

Those ‘big advantage’ situations would be rare, and if they did occur, would be merely your good luck. Why is it ok to give players a ‘free pass’ to touch OBs, but not to allow double hits? One typical way to avoid a double hit when the CB is close, is to jack up and draw. The 45 degree issue...

FOULS IN POOL ... Everything You Need to Know

I still carry the BCA rulebook, a venerable standard.

FOULS IN POOL ... Everything You Need to Know

“If it worked”, you would be very lucky, and the killjoys would resent your fun.

FOULS IN POOL ... Everything You Need to Know

Please elaborate. What ‘big advantage’ situations might occur while shooting jacked-up that would cancel the benefit of eliminating controversy & contention? Reminds me of the whining I get from barroom players when a called shot gets slopped in with kisses or extra rails. Kill-joys want to...

FOULS IN POOL ... Everything You Need to Know

The rural club where I sometimes play has finally ditched their goofy ‘local’ rule set, and adopted pro rules for tournaments. But, application is still very relaxed, which makes me reiterate my opinion re: ‘double-hits’. I’ve always been a stickler for the official rules, but since it seems...

    Toam v10

Way too many expensive products have been expertly counterfeited. I recently discovered that some vitamin supplements I purchased on eBay were fakes. Copied label was so well done, I only found out for sure because the lot # was bogus. Difference in caplet size made me suspicious, so I contacted...

    Diamond Professional Delivery Time

You may lose practice at steeper-angle side pocket shots, at least. It takes awhile, but GC players will eventually give those up totally.

If a gun was put to your head to choose one player to pocket a difficult shot for you, who would you choose?

So, successfully executing a perfect safety against an opponent capable of running out at any time doesn’t require as much skill as ball pocketing? Just because he didn’t have to make many difficult shots doesn’t mean he couldn’t. But, reconsidering the O.P.’s question, I suppose, since the...

If a gun was put to your head to choose one player to pocket a difficult shot for you, who would you choose?

Willie Mosconi. During the period he dominated, ‘being the best player’ never had the equal in modern times. Though, I WOULD feel safer if it was ‘his’ life & family at stake.

    Eight-pocket Filipino table?

That table looks like one from my frequent nightmares re: frustration of inability to find a local poolroom with decent equipment.

Did Brett Gordon break Eddies thumbs?

No indication in that scene, but benzedrine inhalers WERE sold over the counter though in those days. BTW: I could never fathom Eddie’s attitude re: his insisting Fats should ‘give up’. Walking out with a ton of his money (enough to buy the average upper-class house in ‘61) after playing all...

Aramith Duramith balls getting dirty quicker than others?

5 years for me. I use the green Toam, so no chalk marks, but after a few weeks the balls ARE less slippery. I assume it’s finger grease from frequent racking.

How far away does the cue and OB have to be away from each other for it not to be a double hit?

It’s certainly easier to judge distance between balls, or angle of cue elevation or cut before the shot takes place, than what happens afterward, which is what then leads to arguments.

SVB shouldn’t be allowed to turn hearing aids off?

Actually, the reverse applies. With modern micro-electronics, anyone wearing a ‘hearing aid’ device could be utilizing an undetectable receiver.

8 Ball Break - Hitting the 2nd Ball

Me too (though I hate playing 8 ball). Tips in the video re: checking the rack, are rather irrelevant in a social setting (considered rude). Slug racks are common, and you just live with it. On a 9 footer, english that brings you back into the pack can leave you stuck if the rack is loose.
