Matchroom Major Event-European Open (8-13 Aug), Fulda, Winner $30K Prizefund $200K

Shane is really having to work to get out of these racks. Not playing great position, speed control is off.

I can't tell which Austrian pro looks more miserable playing pool: Albin or Mario.

Ridiculous number of misses in this match

Filler has some sort of inexplicable psychological effect on his opponents

Mario He doinks the 9 but sends the cue ball all the way to the opposite end rail. SVB misses it and leaves a hanger for Mario.

Shane lives to fight another day. 10-8

Seems like the American contingent who makes it to the final 64 always gets stuck in the same group of 16 in these big MR tournaments.

    Mental is ruining my game

About 7 years ago, I was in a hill-hill 9-ball match in a hill-hill league playoff with $500 per player on the line for the winning team (not big money, I know, but enough to definitely get your heartrate up). I broke and ran the hill-hill rack at a time when my skill dictated that I might...

Niels Feijen in the BCA Hall of Fame

Well deserved for Niels. Seems like SVB is probably a lock for first ballot HoF. So that's 2024 wrapped up. Then for elite players 40+ you've likely got Biado and Ga-Young Kim for 2025-2026. I could see 2027 going to Jasmin Ouschan. Maybe Corey sneaks in in 2028? The good news for him is that...

$1000 entry tourney at Chester's in OKC -- anyone go?

Average Fargo rating of 590 for the top 8 in a 600 and under tournament. And average of 594 for the top 4. I guess racing to 11 makes it much more likely that the stronger player will come out on top, even when the difference is perhaps just 20-30 or so Fargo Rate points.

Emily interview: new US events coming?

I could see MR having one event per month at the rate they're going. They're already at 10 overall. I also think it's a good idea for them to tie events together whenever possible like we saw with the Spanish Open and WCOP.

Tyler Styer with a huge win over Ko Ping Chung.

Spanish Open, June 2023, from Matchroom

Gary Wilson has had a pretty easy time picking up 9 ball. Beat Aranas and now tied 7-7 with Mario He. Edit: Gary beats He 9-8. Another hill-hill win over an 810 Fargo Rate.

Spanish Open, June 2023, from Matchroom

Tyler seems to have a huge variance in playing ability. He can look like he belongs among the elite at times and also like he's a semi-pro at best.

Spanish Open, June 2023, from Matchroom

Tough draw for Wu. He's got Wojciech Szewczyk in his second-round match.

Spanish Open, June 2023, from Matchroom

Yes, but they have all played MR events recently (actually not sure on Raga). Wu hasn’t played one since 2019 and it has been a while for Orcollo too. It’s unlikely we will get an event with every top player in attendance but the more who are regularly competing the better.

Spanish Open, June 2023, from Matchroom

Wu's return to international competition is very exciting. From the elite 820+ Fargo Rate ranks, it seems we are only missing Dennis from these MR events.

Matchroom 2023 UK Open (nineball), 30May-4June, Winner $30K

IMO Filler's villain status is still upheld because he's so good and almost never succumbs to pressure, which means he backs up his confidence/arrogance pretty much all the time regardless of the stakes. People want to see him stumble but he so rarely does. One of the few times it seemed like...
