    Jump Cues - Wood-Carbon Fiber - Science?

Is good jumping more a product of skill or is there a science behind what the shaft is made of in order to get good cue ball flight? I have a maple shaft jump cue...am I fighting the wood? Does carbon fiber jump more easily?

Break Cue Length - What do you think?

I have Joss two cues that are quite the same. Both close to 18.5 oz. One has a 30-inch shaft and the other a 29 inch. I use a hard Moori tip on each. Would the longer or shorter shaft cue be better as my break cue? Reason? Right now, I use the 30-inch shaft for breaking...no scientific...

How do you prepare for major tournaments (Vegas, for example)?

Do your homework on equipment. Table, cloth, rails, cue ball type. I dig in and find out as much as possible then copy it at home. ESPECIALLY the cue ball that will be used. You need your eye seeing the same thing.

Mind Set - Pool and Pro Ball

I was just thinking how there is a HUGE difference in the mindset of pro ball players both NBA/ NFL vs pool players. Pro ball players actually practice on how to get away with fouls. Pool players have discussions about the honor of calling fouls on themselves. Can you imagine an NFL player...

Got talked into my first league night

37 years in the APA. 18 trips to Vegas. Numerous local singles and partners wins with cash payouts. League play has been very good to me. Use league matches to get better...not as a way to go to Vegas. Bar box 8-ball has been my life. So much fun!

Bar Break Precision ... just something I do.

I'm talking 8-ball only. Minimum 7 balls passed the center line.

Bar Break Precision ... just something I do.

Actually...keeping the cue ball in the middle of the table is a killer. (Watch all the Youtubes...it's rare for anyone.)

Bar Break Precision ... just something I do.

Practicing with a friend of mine...these are the break rules if you want to continue your turn after the break: 1) At least 7 balls must be at the head of the table passed the center line. 2) The cue ball must land within two diamonds of the center line. 3) Make a ball. If any of these rules...

[UPDATED] APA complaint advice - My new-to-pool player went to a 7 in 7 matches (?!?!)

Per buckshotshoeyer's last post: This is absolutely true. The winner of an APA match gets applied innings based on their winning percentage. A winning player can have 20 innings a game...but that's not what goes into the system for their score. Hang-the-9 comment: "A 5 that shoots good...

Straight Pool on a 7' Table?

While stationed in Korea...played straight pool to 150 for months on a Valley bar box. Came back to the USA, became an APA 7 and am still playing APA for 37 years now. 18 Vegas trips. This game is awesome on a 7 footer. You can safety people to death. Fun!

Pros on a Bar Box...Thank You!

There are over a million players who are shooting 8-ball and 9-ball on bar tables every week in both leagues and other locations. This is not true for the 9-foot tables. Youtube matches on bar tables are an excellent training tool...the break, the patterns and the strategy. Thank you Pros...

    Old Photos - Any Collectors?

Both. If I could get $100 I'd buy a new shaft or fishing rod. Maybe I'm way off. Just don't know.

    Old Photos - Any Collectors?

I have a bunch (75 or so) of black and white prints of pool players from the 60s and 70s with the original 35mm negatives. These photos were taken by Robert Hempel the creator of the Fellini cue case. (Pics of Peter Margo, Rempe, Joe Balsis and others.) Is there a need for these? Anyone know...

Pool League Situation - Make the Call - APA Match

Player 'A' cuts the 8-ball into the corner pocket and makes it. The cue ball hits the end rail and rolls down the table not toward a pocket. As player 'A' lifts his hand...he accidently hits and rolls the 4-ball into the cue ball driving them both into the side rail. Player 'A' wins, loses...

    Creating a Low Deflection Shaft

Does a shaft become low deflection by simply lowing the weight/density of the end of the shaft? Could a fiberglass shaft be drilled out, filled with high density foam become low deflection? Does the carbon fiber create low deflection or is it just a strong "hollowable" substance? Thanks tech...

Ask Yourself - Still getting better?

Practice with purpose, books, YouTube, playing tournaments...always REALLY be getting better. Ask yourself, each year... Could my younger self beat me?...NO WAY. (My 55 year old current self would crush my 30 year old self. Not even close.) How about you?
