I cut apart a cue and took the pin and insert out to make my maintenance set. You won't find a tap and/or pin.

That's what scares me. There had to be a 'good' reason someone tried to drill it as opposed to just taking it out and trying to cut the bottom of the bolt. What it stuck? Is it something that was added and not able to remove? <~~I'm interested.

Even guys the manufacture a "line" of cues would not make the butt cap ahead of time that would be bolted at the end of construction. The parts are all oversized and turned at the same time as the rest of the cue. I you find a salvaged butt cap, the chances of it matching up with another...

There is no such thing as a ready-made butt cap. Everything is raw material or oversized and then cut to match the specific cue.

Nope. I just use a razor blade and cut the small slits.
