Wetting my feet in cue making, tapering question.

So, this year I decided to dive into cue repairs, refinishing, and now I am pretty much dedicated to eventually making my own cues. The one thing that's been bending my mind a little, because it's hard to find a good video of it.. Tapering cue butts on a metal lathe with off-set tailstock. Do...

3 things you would change about pool

Honestly the only thing that irks me time after time is there's no centralized rule-set. I can shoot at a bar one night and everyone is playing BCA, walk in the next night and they're playing bar rules, which are made up. You ask them if they know BCA and they look at you like you're an idiot...

    Long ArmPlayers

I don't see a whole lot of odd-shaped humans shooting pool in general. I chalk it up to if you're not comfortable on the table, you're not gonna ever shoot well, and if you're never shooting well, you'll never play. I have a buddy whose build like a spaghetti noodle, about 6'5 with arms that...

    Made some acrylic ferrules

Yeah, I've been down the road of trying to produce a product before, and I don't think it's really my game. I don't like turning hobbies into jobs unless it's stupid easy. For the cue work I do, it's probably gonna stay one off work for friends and some people who ask for work done. I don't...

    Made some acrylic ferrules

Yeah, the cracking is what's gonna put this idea in the dust most likely. I did look into implex which is impact resistant acrylic, but you're not gonna get all the fancy colors and swirls, and it's expensive. This is really just me experimenting with what's available for cheap as I cut my...

    Made some acrylic ferrules

Thanks, it's important to start with high quality material to begin with. Then get good at wet sanding and polishing!

    Made some acrylic ferrules

Been monkeying around with new ferrule material (new to me). Acrylic is a nice hard material, but a little difficult to work with due to chipping easily. This also means it's probably not very impact resistant, so no breaking with these. Mainly for looks.

    What would You do?

No, I completely stopped trying to be helpful to my opponents in leagues. In the past, every time I thought I was being helpful and told my opponent they were about to hit the wrong ball etc, it just made them embarrassed or mad I would say anything to them. It's a lot easier to never say...

    best cue tip tool

The right way? With a lathe and experience. The wrong way that usually leaves peoples shafts and ferrules chewed up? Get one of those cutting tools off amazon / tip shapers. Most good players I know who don't own a lathe themselves either find someone who does, or they just deal with the...

    Pia Filler hates wood shafts

Is there truth to what she is saying? Absolutely.. Are most people, even pros, good enough to notice the micro differences some heat and humidity actually cause in the wood? Probably not. I think it's one of those things that technically is true, but in reality it's just a non-issue.

    Favorite tips so far.

I've gone through a looot of tips in the last 6 months. To list a few honorable mentions - I like the Kamui Brown Hard a lot, it's a great tip. The Tiger Sniper felt good for a few days, then firmed up a lot more than I like a soft tip to. Kamui Brown Clear glazed over too quickly for my liking...
