Do you call your own fouls?

Do you call your own fouls? If you double hit the cueball do you tell your opponent? If you miss your shot and nothing hits a rail do you make sure your opponent is aware they have ball in hand? It has become a pet peeve of mine when my opponent does not call his own fouls. I could understand...

    14.1 Rule Clarification, Please

If a player is on one foul, does a missed shot with cue ball or numbered ball hitting a rail after cue ball initially hits an object ball still count as a loss of a point and a second foul? This rule seems to imply a safety must be called, hence the question. Thanks for any input.

Can a phenolic collar be added to a finished shaft?

Can a phenolic collar be added to a finished shaft? If so, is it a difficult (expensive) process, or fairly simple? My break shaft does not currently have any kind of collar. I am under the impression that a collar can help prevent the shaft from starting to split. Thanks.

    My new DZ cue

Check out my new bloodwood / ebony / ivory Dzuricky custom. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. It's my first custom ordered cue. Both shafts have a stiff taper, and the cue plays very nicely. Bob was great to work with, remaining very patient throughout the entire process, which...

    Wanted: Used Viking Cue

My brother had his cue stolen, and I'm trying to help him find a replacement, since he is not online. The cue was a Viking, and he wants to replace it with the same, since that is what he is used to playing with. He said he wants a linen wrap, and a quick release joint. (I'm not sure which...

A few questions about an older Schon

I recently purchased a what appears to be a Schon SP-46 with two shafts. According to the seller, the cue is over twenty years The brochure I found it listed in indicates it might be a little less than that. The cue was advertised as "absolutely straight". Unfortunately, upon receipt both...

How much does the ferrule affect the hit?

I am currntly trying to decide what kind of ferrule to have put on my cue that is being built. How much does a ferrule affect the hit? Does it play a major role or a minor one? I am considering a thermoplastic ferrule (old Meucci material) instead of a thermoset plastic (Ivorine3) ferrule in...

Which ferrule material should I choose?

As my cue nears completion, I have to make some decisions. One of these is ferrule material. The two materials currently being considered are Ivorine3 and the "old Meucci material." Things I am considering are hit (softer is preferred) and durability. Does anyone have any opinions or input...

Why is sycamore used for veneers?

I know not every cue maker uses sycamore for veneers, Skip Weston being a notable exception, but many do use sycamore. Why is sycamore used? why not more exotic woods, like ebony or bloodwood, etc, etc. Does it have to do with the cost of the veneer wood? Is it because sycamore is easy to work...

    Suggestions for a glove

I prefer to play without a glove, but I will use one if the friction on my hand increases significantly during a session, which seems to be fairly common. The one I am using is a Pro Series brand(84% Nylon, 16% Spandex). I'm not happy with it. In when rubbed on direction, the fabric is mostly...

    Frey, Scruggs, Carmeli or Judd

If you were to buy a sneaky pete from one of these cue makers, which would it be for playability? Which would it be for retaining value? It should be noted that the hypothetical Carmeli and Judd cues in question are both built from Dufferin blanks. Thanks. Chris
