full speed out of this world break, but no ball(s) to hit... or just have 1 ball in the spot :eek:

a friend showed me a cue, no marks,
white handle, white points with veneers and some sore of 6 point "star" inlay in a black oval inlya.. any ideas of the make ?

Note that all of these questions is coming from a IT Systems Analyst who has no idea how a lathe works.. i just know it turns pieces of wood :(
Whats the absolute minimum equipment to make plain jane cues...
is there a big difference between the "hit" of cues ?, say a Joss vs a Pechauer vs a Schon vs a Scruggs ?
if the cues has the same weight and balance points, would you be able to tell which is which ?
In "standard" 2 x 4 case like the ones made by Instrokes and Justis. The shoulder straps is on the side of the case, is it not better (functionally) to put the strap at the back of the case ?
I was watching this video on you tube where a cuemaker was changing a tip, I noticed that he gripped the end of the shaft with a plastic tube to protect the shaft from the teeth of the chuck, what prevents the the other end (joint section) from flying all over the place when the shaft starts...
