Will snooker help your pool game?

I once heard that the great George Mikula was a advocate of playing snooker to help your pool game. I'm guessing he was mainly talking about improving ball pocketing. What do the better players out there think? Have any of you played snooker for this purpose?

    14.1 tip from J.Ervolino - please explain.

I was watching a 14.1 video (not sure which one) but I'll try to find out. Among many good comments Ervolino said that, if you have a side of the rack break ball then clearing the balls that lie below the level of your break ball early and leaving those balls above the break ball towards the...

314z vs 314z2 how much difference is there?

Can all of you that have used both shafts tell me if the Z2 is a big advantage over the 314z. I want to get the most technicley advanced predator shaft. I have been using the original 314 for a few years and I know I'm getting the z or z2 soon. Thanks

Would you enjoy playing in a pool room without music?

I was just thinking about an article I saw about one of the oldest rooms in the country closing and that it never played music at all, no juke box, no sound system at all, just pool. I know in this day and age all pool rooms seem to have a sound system in the background. Would you enjoy playing...

Should I turn a Willie Hoppe house cue into a 2 peice?

I have a great old W.Hoppe one piece in great condition. Solid as hell with a nice thick butt. I just got the idea to turn it into a two piece with an ivory joint. I'm assuming it should play great. Are the percentages in my favor that I'm right?

Is Thomas Engert 491 more impressive than Mosconi's 526?

I believe that Mike Eufemia ran 625. But for those top 14.1 players out there or anybody, is Thomas Engert's 491 on a 9 x 4 1/2 more impressive than Mosconi's 526 on a 4 x 8? To me it is. I just think the idea of balls getting more tied up on a smaller table are far outweighed by the smaller...

Looking for a possibly rare snooker book

I'm hunting for 'Complete Snooker For The Amature' by Joe Davis which contains two books, 'How I play Snooker' and 'Advanced Snooker For The Average Player'. All my searches turn up nothing. Any ideas about these books and good places to look? Thanks

Where and when was 14.1 as we know it first played?

Was it an American game? Before 1900?

Why Eufemia's 625 run isn't considerd the record?

I still hear Mosconi's 526 run refered to all the time as top run. Why? I'm sure Mike Eufemia's 625 was on a 9 ft. table and if Mosconi's was on an 8' that even more of a reason to recognize the 625. I know for a while Ray Martin mentioned this in the beginning of his book 99 Critical Shots'...

Was Mosconi's 526 high run shot on an 8' table?

I heard this the other day and tend not to believe it because this run is so celibrated. Is there someone out there that knows for sure? Thanks

First, as a 14.1 lover I want to thank everyone involved and especially those who put money into the 14.1 event at the Hilton in NJ. I mean this sincerely. BUT When a player has just broke the world rercord with an amazing 174 and out in competion you MUST let them keep shooting. Not only...

2 Great (hard to find) Straight Pool Instruction video and book.

There are 2 hard to find and little known about 14.1 instruction tools that are the best I've ever seen. The first is a home made video of Ray Martin giving an actual class on 14.1to a group somewhere in NY state. He actually gives a lecture while he is shooting, many times stopping after each...

Who played in the match that ended 14.1 being shown on television?

As a Straight Pool lover, I have always thought the kiss of death for 14.1 being broadcast on TV (and the birth of 9 Ball as the new popular game for TV) was a championship match played in Atlantic City, NJ around 1965 on 'The Wide World of Sports' on cannnel 7. It was played in a big armory...

Have you gone from using a 21oz to 19/18oz cue? Why?

I've been away from the game for about 5 years. I always used a 21oz cue and loved it. I loved the solid feel combined with the steadyness of weight. Since I've been back playing ( I was a B level player)I haven't met anyone that uses a 21oz cue which surprises me a bit. Have any of you...

Paradise cue needs refurbishing - NYC area

Who would you all recommend to clean and tighten up my Paradise cue? I'm in NYC. I've heard a few highly regarded names but they all have a reputation of taking a very long time to complete the work. I'm not concerened about compromising the value. I've had some large offers for it but it was...
