I have been playing on my home table for 3 years with no spot installed. I have been hesitant to install one as I'm afraid the spot will disrupt the ball travel. Im I overthinking this are they so thin it does not effect the ball?

I have a '88 Schick I may play a game with one or twice every couple of months. It has two original shafts and is perfectly strait. I keep it in its 1x2 it's George case flat. Is this bad for it? Is there a better way to store a cue long term safely? Thanks
