How High Or Low Do You Cue For Maximum Spin And Had Dr. Dave Ever Studied This?

Difference from the golf comparison is that turf will give but slate doesn’t. A downward strike in pool by elevating the butt will lose accuracy unless the ball is struck and followed through absolutely dead center, which is virtually impossible.

    9ball break

On a 9 foot table, using a template and racking the 1 ball on the spot, I also break from about 2-1/2”-3” width off the side rail. Trying to hit the 1 ball as square as possible and hard, a wing ball virtually always is pocketed for me, and the 1 ball either goes in the side pocket or if not...

    Little Guidance Here

The unlimited play all day/night membership can bite you if your tables are full and you have a waiting list and you have one single unlimited play member practicing by themselves or even if two of them are playing.

is there a set formula when comparing corner pockets to side pockets?? i.e. side pockets should be 1.1 times larger, or 1.2 times.

The side pocket mouth measurement should be 1/2” wider than the corner pocket mouth measurement.

Best to Say Nothing at All?

In a tournament match, at the completion of the match, if I’m on the winning end, I feel the most courteous and respectful thing to say to my opponent when looking them in the eyes and shaking their hand is to say nothing at all. The last thing I ever want to hear if I’m on the losing end is...

    Brunswick Centennial Prices?

Yes, they are now over $300 wholesale, so the best price you’ll likely find these days if you can get a deal is around $400.

Isn’t pool supposed to be dead?

Pool does seem to be on a bit of an upswing for our pool room, as we’ve been open 30 years. Most of that increase being from pure recreational and beginner level players. Our hourly rates are very reasonable, which I attribute as part of the reason for increased play, as compared to...

    Diamond table domination

Our 9 foot Gabriels Pro Signature tables are 25 years old, our 10 foot Gabriels Sentinel prototype (only one produced) table is 10 years old, all are 3 piece 40mm (1.56”) thick, with the 10’ table surface being granite, not slate.

Plug for my home room and Ernesto Dominguez. Let’s get some action here!

We bring Ernesto here to Family Billiards in Boone, NC every 2 years for the last 30 years to work on our tables - he’s the best and the only one I would allow to work on our tables!

    Diamond table domination

If you get an accu-rack template, rack the 1 ball on the foot spot, break from just off one of the side rails and can’t get a nice spread to potentially run out when you make a ball on the break and get an opening shot at the first ball, it’s not the table, it’s your break.

Best pit table in the country

JOB’s outside of Nashville had a pit table located just to the left as you go in, don’t know if it’s still there.

150 BALLS RUN Irving Crane vs Joseph Balsis 1966

Looks like at least 5-6 balls were involved in some series of both caroms and combos which allowed him to make this shot. When initially looking at it, I thought he hit the striped ball directly in front, but after looking at it again, it appears he hit the ball located to the left of the...

Hard to Find the Center of the Cue Ball

The thing about banks - you need to know you cushions as the accuracy of making the bank are so sensitive to speed and spin - all cushions bank differently.

Dominguez vs Guama race to 50 for 80+ per side

Brass Tap is a legit pool room that has numerous tournaments, big and small. Rail bolts can loosen up over time, but someone usually notices and reports a table with a dead rail or rails to the owner / manager. Any experienced room owner / manager who is a player will periodically check every...

How Often Can You Run This?

Not that easy if shooting in rotation 1-6, as you have to leave an angle on every shot, but if you leave too much angle, the shots get too hard. Of course it depends on what size table it is and how tight the pockets are on the table. In rotation, I’m guessing on our 7 foot Diamond I might be...

Dominguez vs Guama race to 50 for 80+ per side

Ernesto is indeed an 800+ table mechanic as well as still a formidable player in his 70s. Oscar however is a professional pool player and a successful room owner. Many years ago as a teen he and his brother helped their Dad out for a few years. He will be the first to admit the work was way...

Dominguez vs Guama race to 50 for 80+ per side

I agree that if OD did discover loose rail bolts the day before their match, he should have had the courtesy to inform his opponent of his desire to tighten them. At that point, a decision could then be agreed on whether or not they could be tightened, and if so, it should be done by someone...

Dominguez vs Guama race to 50 for 80+ per side

Quite unlikely that a newish Diamond table at Brass Tap would have loose not to mention missing rail bolts? Sounds to me it’s likely someone doctored the table before Oscar discovered it. Even if he tightened the loose bolts but didn’t replace the missing ones (as confirmed on his fb page)...
