"So does he actually play? " why? you want to play him some? I've been following the game since the 90's. the only guy that was a trick shot wiz that could play pool was massey. maybe nevell or earl but both of them are not as high level regarding trick shots. massey is the babe ruth of...

    Stroke? Shaft? Technique?

the joss shafts that I've tried are more whippier than the schons, which tend to have real stiff shafts.

    Why no pool

cable tv doesn't even show the trick shot competitions anymore. if that's not being shown then 9 or 10 ball stands no chance. the only way to get any viewers other than the hardcore fans is to have a bunch of celebrities participate in exhibitions.

Earl and mike sigel-funny on the table?

when i was going through the least favorite players thread i noticed mike sigel and earls popped up a lot. i get that can be a bit petulant a lot of times. however, if one listens to what he is saying that dude is pretty brilliant and hysterical. i've seen sigel talk a lot in some of the...

    The Death Grip

i only tighten the grip for these 2 types of shots: 1. to slow down the cue ball when the object ball is at an angle. 2. cut shots at real sharp angles.

Pool's "image" has nothing to do with it's lack of popularity - Science

in addition to the fun factor for these kids, there also is the money making factor. just recently there was some gaming competition going on over at the Barclays' center in brooklyn. a basketball/concert arena-pool during its peak the best it could do was maybe get a major tourney at a spacious...

What does pool need to do to get to this?

one of the best players i ever say play would just spin the snot outta the track ball using his thumbs. he was a drummer for a cover band. he told me something about how playing the drums through the years gave him the technique to do what he did to that track ball. he'd score in the 20's...

    Tuning the stroke

must be at least 75% of the pros that elbow drop. when the timing is on target elbow drop is the way to go. stroke is smoother and shot making is more accurate. elbow droppers I watch and study from on video: earl, archer, sigel, siming chen, varner.

    Female with 790 FargoRate

a fantastic player. one of the few women i've enjoyed watching play pool over the years.she and karen corr are light years ahead of all the women players that are out there. would not mind seeing her and corr play 9 ball race to 50. a women's version of color of money. against the top 50 player...

Gripping the cue like a toothbrush?

Generally the cue is held with the thumb of the shooting hand pointing straight down to the floor when the cue tip is close to the cueball. i tried this grip but found that it to be too inconsistent for me to grasp. So i discovered another way to grip, and that is to hold the cue like a...

Shooting harder to improve accuracy - how many of you do it?

about 20 years ago i saw richard peck from the now defunct city hall billiards rob some guy in a couple of sets of 9 ball. i could tell he slowed his speed so as to not terrify that victim to not come back at later times. once the victim left peck started to blast balls into the pocket. he...

Who are some players who were/are not naturally gifted

"you’re not going to play like Santana without putting some serious hours in at some point" funny that santana was brought up here. guy i knew was one of those shredder dudes that could do those al dimeola/yngwie malsteen arpeggio sweeps like it was nothing. he attended the guitar institute of...

Pool -- More Like Basketball Than Golf

i ised to play a lot of pick up basketball until my early 20's. even though pool does have the inclusion of an extra ball, i agree w/lou as there are similarities between the two. like pool, with basketball there are slight variations with the stroke of shot, depending where on the court you are...

An idea that works good for slow cheap cloth

"While you're at it, use some on the shaft of your pool cue...also on the inside of the glove you shoot with (if you use a glove" i'm just making guesses here. does this stuff make the shaft more sleek? inside the glove prevents stickiness? just wondering what's the purpose for each.

A cable tv show for pool?

I notice a few threads over the years on how to make pool popular again, especially I the states. I have a concept heavily borrowed from one of those tv channels that shows all of those cooking shows. I believe the show is called worst cooks. based on that it would be the worst pool players. I...
